Gary Rowan 4 Weeks
Reckless, High contact, Severe impact, straight to tribunal.
Knocked Jeremy Cameron out cold.
Only saving grace was Cameron was a team mate but whose presence at Geelong may shorten Rohan's career.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Interesting that this was an accident that happens in a contact sport but if it was an opposition player he would be suspended.

And would get at least 4 weeks.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Thu 22 Jun 2023 9:38pm Interesting that this was an accident that happens in a contact sport but if it was an opposition player he would be suspended.
Where is the duty of care for a team mate.

Good point you make, doubt the AFL would know how to deal with that circumstance at the moment, something for Mr Dillon to ponder.ace wrote: ↑Thu 22 Jun 2023 9:42pmAnd would get at least 4 weeks.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Thu 22 Jun 2023 9:38pm Interesting that this was an accident that happens in a contact sport but if it was an opposition player he would be suspended.

Re: Gary Rowan 4 Weeks
I was going to post the same thing.
Why should the jumper determine whether a reckless/accidental act is punished?
Are they serious about getting head knocks out of the game?

Re: Gary Rowan 4 Weeks
Accidents happen and, as the dud said the jumper colour shouldn't matter at all - should be no penalties for accidents (not 4 weeks for Rowan).
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Gary Rowan 4 Weeks
Thought exactly the same thing when watching the match.
Will the Rohan factor be used in future tribunal defense?
Will a player ever be suspended for friendly fire?
All these questions would have seemed ridiculous 5 years ago, but now they are genuine. Could this happen?

Re: Gary Rowan 4 Weeks
Could Jeremy Cameron’s manager hire a lawyer and sue the Geelong Football Club? Gary Rowan Rohan? The AFL?
Either now, or as a legacy case in, say 10-20 years?

Re: Gary Rowan 4 Weeks
I'm glad some in the media have brought this issue up and have pointed out the inconsistency/hypocrisy of the AFL

Re: Gary Rowan 4 Weeks
There were similarities to the Giansiracusa "bump" on Kosi, which pretty well reduced the former from Superman to a mere mortal for the rest of his career. I don't know what Rowan was thinking at the time. Very little, it would appear.

That footage would be a great defence for the next player reported for the same action!

However personally I'd consider kosi's to be worse.
It happened directly in front of my seat at Docklands. Probably 30 odd metres away , Kosi's lights were out as soon as he was hit . Then his unconscious body fell hard on the ground .
Couldn't believe that nothing happened to Gia as the bump was unnecessary and totally avoidable.
I think Kosi has stated that he's never been the same since , thankfully he's now working with the Danny Frawley centre and his mental health issues are being addressed.
