Team for tomorrow

Post: # 2005168Post WellardSaint »

Emergencies
Windy
Bytel
Sharman
Campbell

Who thinks Bytel gets sub after 30-odd for Zebs?

Why isn't Windy in?
Who could he displace in the lineup?

Windy should get a full game in at the Zebs. No point for him being the sub.

I suspect the sub will be Windhager once again.

IMO Bytel is a genuine emergency: he would perhaps come in if one of Steele or Crouch were to be a late withdrawal, but I doubt he will be the sub.

Billings must be feeling a little disheartened. With no Zebras game this week, he'll have no opportunity to press his claims for a spot in the seniors.

If Billings+Bytel get into the 23, then which 2 exit?
Crouch was a bit proppy (Loris said) after a strong tackle, only got 16 touches (or 19), well below his usual 30-odd.
He must have recovered.
Unless he's a late withdrawal.

Good to see a winning team being backed.

It's huge to have a big chunk of players pushing for selection ready to go.

Early in the season there was security in your spot, which gave the team some confidence. But now it's kill or be killed at the selection table.

Match committee seems to be giving players a game to respond after a poor performance, which is also working.

I doubt JB particularly cares, he would be happy to have got through last week. Now he gets a two week block of training into himself before his next match practice with Sandy.

Tough team to break into
Kudos to Byrnes, I didn't see him holding out the likes of Windhager and Billings.
He is courageous and desperate and runs his guts out.
RTB loves that.

Don’t keep it just because we’re winning but don’t change it unless someone is playing really poorly. In my view the team deserves to keep some stability. These guys have deserved a run of stability imo. Cats barely changed their team once they got on a run last year

He wants Owens as our backup ruckman. And then bring in Billings etc. I say Owens isn’t trained as a ruckman and I don’t want him slaughtered as an undersized kid ( albeit with the aggression of a seasoned player) who is pinch hitting brilliantly in the last quarter but not thrown in during the 1st quarter

Anyone know what the go is with jack Hayes. Seems like he’s been “10-12 weeks” on the injury list for the past 5 weeks?

What was his injury

Was it a navicular or was that Allison

Hayes was in a moonboot for quite a while

Foot injuries are tough ones

So BM wants cordy dropped ...The coach doesn't..who is right ..after watching the replay with eyes on Cordy ..he is playing his role . BM can coach the saints if he likes but from his mom's basement.

You make some valid points, but I think when we talk about the 'team' it has to include the whole list.

The 'team' isn't just the 22/23 who took to the field last week. Some of the players who are going to be needed to contribute to wins in a long hard season aren't going to be playing all 22 games of home and away

I think the way the coaches have full buy in, there wouldn't be the usual sour grapes if anyone gets a tap on the shoulder to allow his team mate an opportunity.

It's going to benefit us when it counts most. It keeps players fresh. I seriously do not think Seb Ross, Rowan Marshall, Brad Crouch, and Hill or Wood should be expected to play each week (and the youngsters shouldn't either... Will Ronnie and Michito play every game...or Pou - an 18 year old in his first year??)

This week against Port would be a great opportunity for a young mid like Windy or Jack Bytel to match it against a young Rozee and a young Butters in the centre square at Docklands.

Our young mids also benefit from lining up against Wines and Boak and could get a huge confidence boost from the experience if/when we get the win

It's our home game and I think we should be bold and plan to win, but at the same time have an eye on the future

Brad Hill has recently said one of the great things this year is that there is selection integrity.
