How many players in a team in 2023?

Post: # 1997994Post shanegrambeau »

Sorry to bother.
Please help.

How many players are in an AFL team in 2023 and why is the role of the sub and emergencies ?

Am I correct

18 players on field.
4 interchange players
OK ..I think I know this much

Subs and emergencies
3 emergencies, from which one player is chosen as sub in the day of the match?

1) when is the sub nominated? Just before the game?
2) is the sub considered to have been selected as an official game on their statistical sheet?
3) Does the sub have to be one of the three nominated emergencies?
4) the sub can function as a medical or a tactical function, correct? In effect, no difference?
5) in general, do you feel, we choose 22 players for the team? Or 23?

I would like to know. Thanks in advance.
I also need this to sort out the scoring in the selection game, which I intend to honour and carry through.

All your assumptions are correct.

It’s the same as last year but the players don’t have to feign an injury to be subbed off.

May I ask, so you feel we choose ‘22’ or ‘23’?
each week.

My hunch is to reward the selection of the starting 22, and ‘screw the sub’..
That eliminates the irrr of waiting to find out, and also of rewarding professional subs, like Tippa at Essendondon , who seems to be set up as an impact player with commensurate fitness goals.
Not a real starting player as it were.

The sub is like you bring 6 bottles of $50 wine to a party - but one is just a recording of a bottle with $5 plonk in it!!!

I would hate to be named sub in my first game, not get a run and have 0-0-0-0-0-0 on the stat sheet

I also see it as if a player gets to 99 games he could be listed as sub just to tick over the 100

I would only count a game as one that contains at least the possibility of a kick in anger - so I would say we pick 22 with a sub

Unlikely this year that there will be unused subs. Most clubs will pull the trigger just before 3/4 time if they haven’t been forced to do it earlier.

Thanks

Settled.

I will only count the 22 for the selection.

So Paton gets no points this week, as far as my lil game goes, I mean my GIANT game, even though he had plenty of time on field due to Webby.
