Did he get benched in the 3rd though?
Just looked up the stats - only 60% time on ground.

Captain of Calder Cannons and played a few games there with stress fracture in his back as it was nearing draft time. Second to Sam Walsh in possesions the year they both got drafted and was tipped to go top ten if it wasnt for back injury. My son worked at Cannons over that period and rated him as the a leader amongst his peers. Not great pace but good at getting the pill and using it. Yes, we do have similar players but at the same time has not been able to get a consistent run at it. Needs solid game time at highest level to build game confidence.

Good opportunity for him and Byrnes

What role does Byrnes play in the current side? I just can't pick his strengths.

Byrnes strengths

Running power and speed

He is a good endurance runner but also has a burst of speed

Well, Ryan is very fast, has good hands, tenacious, tackles hard, smart. Never gives up, exceptional aerobic capacity. Blond. Hope that helps. BTW we sponsor him. My guess he will get a mid field role. Needs a decent run of consecutive games.

I know we're hijacking a Bytel thread to talk about Byrnes, but I don't think you can play him as a small forward in a side that has Butler and Higgins in it. Would have to pass one or both of them and I don't see it.

McQualter was a role player

I think that’s what Byrnes will be - like Castagna at Richmond

We will pick 3 possibly 4 small forwards (one on the bench or sub)

Jack might have injured his knee during the game, unconfirmed whispers so not sure if it's going to keep him out of this week.

That would be a very bitter pill for him to swallow.

Was ok on the W/E, started slow but picked up a lot of momentum from late in the 3rd quarter onwards. 7 tackles so good pressure as always.
Would have liked to have seen him get a bit more of the ball and am still a little uncertain what his best spot is. Loved his goal. Looked super composed the whole time.

Hopefully it’s nothing serious and he’s good to go. Be good to see if he can step it up a bit more with a decent run

The guy can't take a trick, just been confirmed he is going to miss this week, something about being admitted to hospital with cut knee??
