Training- Friday January 27

Post: # 1993581Post Saintmike65 »

Observations at match sim 3 x 15 minutes:

* Hunter Clark impressed with his vision & creativity
* Windhager, Phillipou, Owens all prominent..Owens is a competitive animal!
Phillipou kicking a magnificent goal off a step outside 50 near the boundary
* Sinclair his usual self with his speed and ball use.. spent some time in the midfield
* Sharman took a hanger & was lively
* Eyre is such a lovely mover & nice kick but his hard hands hold him back
* Marshall looks good
* footskills still a concern
* Zac Jones looks to be back to good physical condition with the old zip in speed
* can confirm Allison has a broken foot
* Gresham lively but set shot goal kicking not up to standard
* Coffield should be close to returning to full training
* Van Es played forward and competed very well, certainly not frightened the kid

Mike, how is Highmore going?

Probably has the best judgement of the ball in flight (along with Wilkie) and cleanest hands in the club.

Shame he isn’t 198cm.

Could he fill a role forward this season given our lack of depth in that area and his ability to catch it?

My main observation today was we are struggling in the Key Forward positions, too many injuries, plus no Membrey today.

I think Eyre has to get a spot on the list, we are running out of tall options and he does look capable.
Good to see Adams up and about.

I saw Jones dump Webster twice during match sim, are those two mates or do they have issues, Jimmy didn't look impressed.

Will the Saints ever be classed as a good club ?

I like Tommy Highmore but he maybe a victim of team balance with Howard, Wilkie & Battle locks in defence you’d think.

He was like that last pre season in the intra club, not sure it really works for him.

Too good for VFL, but he is behind battle and Wilkie. Btw, I have a feeling Batts will go next level this year. Looking awesome on the track

May well have to play key forward the way we are going.
Sharman the last option to support Members.
Battle may well get deployed there and Highmore gets his shot in the backline

A poster on BF suggested we are looking to give Ryder a last minute call up, not sure of the veracity? If thats the case maybe Ryder rucks and Marshall plays FF. TBH I would rather see us try a state league FF like Hudson Garoni or similiar.

Well the chatter is we are down a ruckman, so as a short term fix it would have some merit.
Rather see us move though tbh.

Its a shame Highmore is not more versatile eg can play forward or chop out in the ruck. He seems to be the forgotten tall even though they are going down every where around him.

I dont know what his contract status is, but with Cordy, Van Es and the current first 22 ahead of him he might struggle to remain on the list at seasons end.
