Inject any past Saint into the current top 22

Post: # 1885471Post skeptic »

Yes the possibilities are endless

There is very little rationale evidence as to why one wouldn’t pick a Tony Lockett or a Robert Harvey in just about any scenario but IMO neither would be the perfect choice for this team.

A new Nick Riewoldt too would be an incredible addition...

But personally right now... imagine an in his prime, Nicky Winmar just slotting into our midfield rotation, and resting up forward if he needs to slow down from super sonic speed to a gentle sprint

King would take 15 marks a game up forward

I just watched this video and am feeling a bit hyped about the wizard... it has been posted here before but nonetheless check out the goal VS Collingwood at exactly 10min
It is unbelievable

Definitely my first choice... otherwise prove me wrong

The Kosi that played those 4 consecutive great games in about 2006.
Was Kouta x Carey and a little bit of Buddy thrown in!

Absolutely skeptic.
Winmar seemed to usually play at either half forward or wing. Would have been nice to to see him more in the midfield and perhaps resting up forward.

Would love him in our current top 22!

My favorite player ...in my fav quartet of Burkey, Harvs, and Louie.

Last year, I would have liked to have a Stevie Buckets Loewe in the team because King flunked so many marks, but when again I think of Nicky I remember his long silky passes and wonder if King would have marked more of them. But alas, I think not. So buckets for me.

Speaking of key forwards, our Tim Mebrey had a pretty indifferent year in 2020. I hope he is on the buzzer this year.

I think a lot of us are in ‘high’ about 2020. But we really were way off the mark in the second part of the season before we came together in the last few games.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Caydn Beetham, Brett Peake, Aaron Fiora (well, he was from the Tigers, hey)

I don’t think Max would have had a choice. A Winmar pass, rather than just kicked to his advantage... would have just slammed into stomach and inserted itself into his gut

Winmar or little Aussie Jones the modern archetype of the attacking half back with sublime kicking skills on both sides. The pace to break the lines as well.

Apologies to plugger, the best I've ever seen, but we have Max now, the latest in a long line of Messiahs!

Yeah. I like that idea. A modern version 6 cm taller. Would easily have been a 300 gamer without getting rubbed out so often.

Harves at his best would be handy. Him or Plugger.

In 1979 he switched again to Melbourne to become their captain-coach for two years;[7] during this period, the Demons suffered the worst defeat in VFL/AFL history, losing to Fitzroy by 190 points in Round 17, 1979.[8]

And in Round 21 the Demons spanked us by 12 goals....Carl’s second last as coach I presume...or did they fire him early?

I forgot all about Carl post 1978. ‘78 being such an incredible see-saw with tumultuous drama in the middle.

TBH, I wasn’t old enough to see Carl flying in the pre ‘72 era and when he came back, I thought he seemed cool headband and aggression but he didn’t seem to be as important as say a Jeff Sarau..

Of course, Shane Grambeau was overlooked and maybe I am smarting from that.

Did you know Carl ran for the state parliament (and lost) in ‘99? Somewhere up the Murray or Mallee/wimmera!

Stevie Buckets Louie should have also ran. (Sounds like a French President)

To me

This means a player we lack (otherwise you’d just go Lockett!)

A run and carry mid with class or speed IMO
Therefore anyone of
Harvey, Hayes, Goddard, Dal, Montagna, Steven

Couldn’t go past Lockett. Only problem would be that he is now 54 years old.

But Lockett to FF, Marshall CHF. King to second ruck alongside Ryder.

And Plugger is now in the sort of shape that would see him succeed in the modern game. I ran into him at the races in 2019. He was so gaunt I thought he was Peter Garrett at first!

Just give me George Young at his prime roaming across half forward.

A forward line of King, Membrey and Young complimented by 3 of the following smalls ( Gresham, Higgins, Butler, Billings).

Understand what you're saying, but King to second ruck is like taking your Rolls Royce to work, to pick up bricks.
