Ben Long's Bump - Any defence?

Post: # 1852243Post Ghost Like »

I've read where David King is calling for 4 weeks, that's the ridiculous. Obviously no weeks is the opposite end as the head is sacrosanct. (Except in marking contests but that's another thread)

I heard Roo say he ran past the ball, he ignored the ball to make the bump. He's in trouble, a couple, maybe three if the above is true.

I've also heard that one camera angle looks worse, whatever that actually means???

I believe we adopt the Baldock defence, don't put your head where your bum can go! Then examine all those camera angles.

In my opinion he didn't run past the ball, I believe Darcy had just tapped the ball out of his reach as he went to put his arms down to get it.

Depending on the medical report, I'm hoping for one week only but likely two.

David Kings a knob
I’d suggest Covid 19 has traumatised Long and impaired his judgement....that or temporary insanity....either way he’s having a holiday
Like his intent though...

One camera angle looks bad whereas another looks like he put body between Darcy and ball and Darcy ran into him

Either way he has been found guilty by the media so 4 weeks it is

Not intentional...Ball was there to be won so he didn't enter the contest with the intention of taking Darcy out.
Will be reckless, so two weeks is likely.

Long was motionless at contact with his back toward the Fremantle player, the ball in proximity and Long focussed on it attempting to reef it into his possession as it bobbled away

What else should Long have done in those circumstances?

Turned and ran the other way?

It is a contact sport and this was incidental contact both players focussed on the ball

He went past the ball and went the bump, made head contact, and the guy went off with a concussion and didn’t come back if I’m not mistaken.

3 weeks, 2 if he’s eligible for some kind of discount

Did not run past the ball but tried to put himself between the ball and Darcy.
Darcy was bent over so Long's hip went into Darcy's head.
Long will get weeks.

He prefers to shirt front an opponent coming toward him rather than step aside and attempt a tackle.
Very risky these days but normally gets away with it as opponent's are usually taller and Long lowers his shoulder to avoid the head.
But today the opponent's head was low.

Let see if Roberton gets a game in his place.

Um lets try "no other way to play the ball."
If he takes the ball he crashes into Darcy anyhow.

Funnily enough I don't have a problem with what Long did. He did the same thing later on in the game and it was sweet, allowed an easy gather for his teammate. Just their dopey ruck decided to go head first at ground level à la McCartin.

Because Darcy was reckless, Long will get 2 with a good record.

Darcy ran into Long, not the other way around. Long was either gathering or shepherding for a teammate. Anyway, that's my defence!

I'm with ya! Longy didn't run through him, he had his feet set. Darcy slid in head first. I think we should represent...

I’d go with the Lisa Simpson defender, Darcy moved his slow moving head into Long’s fast moving hip...

Hasn't the other guy got a duty of care not to put his head where an arse is?

The reason we have to play footy up in Queensland is a group who sniff others bums 5 times a day spread a virus among themselves.
No sympathy for Darcy attempting the same on Long.

Long is gone for a few weeks I would say- he has done some dumb undisciplined things that have cost us goals in the past, and that bump on Darcy fired up Freo.

Will get 3-4 weeks with a discount of 1.
2 weeks would be a good outcome.

Gets the StKilda treatment and will be used as a scape goat. Dylan Shiels was far worse.

Trial by Media ..... as St Kilda supporters should we expect anything less

At least it allows someone else to step up and Long to recharge
