Throw the coin at Toby Greene, my thoughts only.
They would need to clear out more than just Hannebury I would have though to make room for Shiel in their cap.

Remember - they also lost the Tippett contract this year as well - both were on big $$$'s

I think they still have to pay some of Tippet's contract in 2019.

Nope - Tippet's contract is completed on 31 October 2018

Apparently his exit payment will need to be included in their 2019 cap.

Very relevant when talking about Dylan Shiel. This year or next year.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

If we could get Shiel, it would certainly give fans some hope for next year. If we don't get anyone through trade, everything looks quite bleak.

I’m not sold this is the way to go as we would be paying through the nose.

We need to keep developing the list.

Keep going to the draft
Go for suitable free agents according to needs
Moneyball players from other clubs and state leagues
Improve our coaching and development of players
Get rid of the head coach

If it was next years first rounder, they would want more than Longer as a sweetener.

I keep hearing Giants want a first rounder and a second rounder or a player worth a second rounder for Shiel.

Carlton have pick 1 and probably a compensation pick but no player needed by GWS but pick 1 and their second rounder - pick 20-something this year would get the deal done.

Saints will struggle to match this IF it is offered especially as we are not offering pick 3 (pick 4) and we have limited players of value to GWS and no second rounder this year.

If Carlton really want Shiel then they can give 1 and 20 and he is theirs.

I'm sure we would get more out of Shiel than the Midgets are getting out of him.
We need to use pick 3 in the draft.

If shiel is worth 1.2/1.3 where does that leave Steven and Ross? Same level. Opens up an unsustainable worm can.

You could say the same thing about all teams with high paid players.

The club is going to find themselves in real deep s***...even deeper than what they are now if they pay a very good midfielder 1.3 mill a year. Absolutely crazy. He is lucky to be even in the top 5 midfielders at GWS. A short stepping non tackler and not the best kick going around.

Shiel is a good player but not worth our first rounder

Averaged 25 possessions 3 marks 3 tackles and kicked 6.14 this year

Also averaged 1 goal assist and 1.5 one %

Sure good player but mid to late first round at very best

Tom Mitchell went for pick 14 and a swap of later picks

That's $1.3 mill a year staring you right in the face....what a joke.

Fair analysis and agree with posters above.

Shiel is good for sure. But he is 25. 26 before the next season starts. Maybe you get 4-5 good seasons out of him.
Worth about pick 10 in my opinion. Would not give up pick 4 for him.

By comparison Kelly is better and younger and worth pick 1 and Coniglio is younger and better and worth a pick 5. Just MO.
