In this day and age of wokeness, anything said can be misconstrued as sexual misconduct. Have a look at the s*** that ScoMo left behind before you criticize Lyon.

Ok, let's leave sexual misconduct aside.

When questioned after 2009 GF re Luke Ball on the pine for most of second half he replied with "I forgot him"! If I am president at that time he gets DCM for Lying ,being incompetent or both!
But we were so in love with his snake oil that that moronic answer was not questioned at all!

So you'd sack him after he got us to a GF, for making one mistake which he owned. A mistake that very likely had no bearing on the loss. Coaches and players make mistakes just about every game.

You say he owned it and I say he lied.
I think he was threatened by Ball’s superior education and intelligence and had to put him in his box.

For the entire season up until the GF Ball had been nobbled. In fact he'd been nobbled since 2006. He couldn't run freely, had lost a couple of yards of pace and because of his injury, could barely kick 20 metres. He struggled to spread, which was integral to the game plan.
So they thought he could make a valuable contribution on reduced game time and that's what they planned for and how they organised rotations.

As it turned out, Ball heroically pushed himself through the pain barrier given the occasion. Found a yard of speed, was kicking long and generally playing in a way that he hadn't done since 2005! This was unanticipated, I clearly recall been stunned at the game and thinking "This is Bally 2005".

In the heat and pressure of battle, remember it was Rossy's first GF, someone forgot to rethink the Ball rotations in light of his unexpected form. It was a simple oversight, a f*** up. Our wasted shots on goal cost us that Premiership, simple as that. We should've been 5 goals up at half time.

Ball went to Collingwood and for the first half of 2010 was back to the nobbled Luke Ball, no speed and hampered kicking. Collingwood could afford to have a physio working one on one with him and finally got him right by about mid season 2010.

Yeah its a pity someone didn't readjust Bally's rotations in the 09 GF. Don't think it would have made much difference to the result. Collingwood got him right over a pre-season and half a season with resources we simply didn't have and of course blood infusions. No soft cap back then. We would not have ever got him right, so his move was for the best.

A more seasoned Ross Lyon appears to have ‘got the job’ at St Kilda… and he’s ‘exactly what they need’

Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire believes Ross Lyon is “exactly what they need down at St Kilda” and predicts he’ll almost certainly return to an AFL coaching role with a more “broadened” mindset.

Reports on Wednesday night suggested Lyon was on the brink of returning to the Saints as their senior coach – 11 years after he spectacularly left the club to join Fremantle – following the brutal sacking of Brett Ratten last week.

Lyon held a two-hour meeting with the club’s board at St Kilda’s Moorabbin headquarters on Wednesday, following other chats with Saints figures on Monday and Tuesday.

Since being sacked as Fremantle’s senior coach in late 2019, Lyon has ventured into Commercial Real Estate and the footy media, both on radio and TV. But he now appears poised to become the first coach since David Parkin to return to the same AFL club for a second coaching stint.

Speaking on RSN Breakfast Club on Thursday morning, McGuire declared: “There’s no doubt Ross has got the job down there at St Kilda – and he‘ll be fantastic.”

McGuire, who’s sat alongside Lyon on the Footy Classified desk for the past few years, said a more aware Lyon loomed as the right coach at the right time for the Saints.

“He’s been an amazing coach without getting the ultimate, but gee he’s lifted a couple of teams that haven‘t got near Grand Finals to very close to them,” McGuire told RSN927.

“I think what he‘s been doing at the Wizel Property Group as well has broadened his thought-process and the way you negotiate. And then sitting inside the media – I mean, I used to laugh nearly every week as his eyes widened on what really was going on – and having an understanding from the media side … I think it’s really broadened his mind. It’ll be interesting to see how he comes out, particularly with the media going forward.

“I think he‘s exactly what they need down at St Kilda and I think so too do the board and particularly Andrew Bassat, who’s decided I think in the last year that if he’s going to be the president, well he has to be the president. It’s all very well having people around you and good appointments, but if you’re going to set the tone, it comes from the top – and that’s what he’s doing.”

McGuire said Lyon’s work in the media over recent years proved he still had one of the sharpest minds in footy.

Brett Ratten set to leave St Kilda | 01:30
“Ross will come in and he‘s been looking and analysing every week, every team,” he said.

“He has also been analysing in counter tactician work as well, so he‘ll come up with a different style.

“The other thing that we‘re really seeing now is coaches are starting to finally, rather than going with a manifesto, they’re going in and saying: ‘What have we got at hand? What sort of players do we have? How do we fashion a game plan around what we’ve got, not what we wish we had?’

“I’m hoping that Ross comes back in and we actually start to see a game where teams really use the players they‘ve got at hand and happy to have various types of play. Some are going to work against some clubs, some are going to not work against others, but it’ll make it a bit different going to the footy because as we all know up until the last year with Richmond’s style and the Pies were great this year and others, some of those guys have been pretty boring and it’s been largely because the players haven’t been able to play.”

I'm thinking it will Patons job to play the Stevie baker, Ryan Crowley villian role

Why do we need a player to play a role that doesn't exist in modern footy?
I can't think of other successful clubs with poorly skilled thugs in their team.
If all Ross Lyon is going to do is bring back an outdated style, then he's not the man for the job. I suspect he won't do that at all. If he wants the club to be respected, then our actions on field are part of that.

I'm all for a tagger, but they need to be able to win their own ball and positively impact the team. Think Windhager's games on Lachie Neale and Tim Kelly this season. That's the defensive role we need.

Triggered much? I don't think you actually read what was written, some might classify that as embarrassing reading. Grant Thomas coached us to multiple finals appearances so that would be an indication of a good team. Ross Lyon took us over, put into place his strategy of high pressure football (Saints Footy as it was known) based on the players abilities & strengths at the time and made us great. It wasn't an insult on either coach more pointing out their strengths and what each brought to the table. No one wants prolonged mediocrity, everyone wants improvement so why target a coach who has not shown that this is his area of expertise?

I expect he will be named as coach and I will get behind him again but I hope it is only short term while we look for a more suitable coach rather than one who is arguably the best available at present

It’s only embarrassing reading if one assumes the tripe written was clear with logic….
What exactly is your point??
The side played finals under Thomas - could t go further and had declined in his last year
Lyon took over - made us GREAT as you point out
Then you say….hope he doesn’t stay long so we find a “more suitable” coach as opposed to “best available”
See the contradiction??
Clear as mud
I hope Lyon is given 5 years - enough time to show he doesn’t have to make knee jerk decisions and to bring through the next Brayshaws and Serongs like he has started at Freo (might pay to go read what Brayshaw thought Ross did for his development in his first 2 years) before trotting out the cliched, tired old narrative “Ross can’t develop players”
Regardless, what we do KNOW is Lyon can get C graders playing like B graders - see Clint Jones ….limited skill became one of the best taggers in the comp
You just know Lyon will drag the best out of our list choc full of C grader like
Jones
Wood
Billing’s
DMac
Higgins (I think he could kick 40 under Lyon)
Paton
You get the jist

"The side played finals under Thomas - could t go further and had declined in his last year"

Grant Thomas' three years of finals were 2004, 2005, and 2006.
In 2004, we weren't really finals ready but had a huge crack all the same. Had we made the Grand Final, we might have been able to run a tired Lions outfit off their feet.
In 2005, we were cruelled by injuries and were cooked in the prelim.
In 2006, we lost two premiership points in the sirengate fiasco. If that game was called a draw, we finish 3rd on the ladder instead of 6th and get a double chance. The entire finals series is changed. Sydney finish fifth without a double chance and probably don't make the Grand Final.
We'd have played Adelaide away. Our only match up against them that season was a loss with us coming off mutliple 6-day breaks. We looked cooked on that night.
Fair to say, we'd have made a Preliminary final at least and probably lost to the Eagles in Perth in a prelim. I doubt whether RB could have sacked GT after losing a prelim in Perth.
The sacking of GT was a disgrace at the time (we had a 14-8 record that season and percentage off 4th).

Lots ifs/ buts in that
If only siren gate didn’t happen - it did and he cost us
If only he didn’t have injuries - I went to the 05 Prelim I know he played injured players and was found out doing it
His “Training Services” was a disgrace - had he invested more $ in that and less on overseas training camps to make “rounded young men” (in his image no doubt perhaps we’d have been better served ???
Injury management under Lyon improved immediately after he poached David Misson
Not to mention Grant deciding constantly he was a bigger Exec than anyone in AFL House abd taking them in weekly…
I maintain Lyon with that list from 04 - Hamill, Gehrig, Harvey, Hudgton, Jones, Burke , Pecketts plus a swag of talented kids coming in and we’d have a flag …Lyon never had the luxury of that depth and his results far outweighed anything “GT” ever did
And yep we snuck into 8th in Thomas last year cause his coaching tricks were up

Sirengate cost us as much as anything that year.
Those two points were the difference between 3rd and 6th once you take two points from Freo.

Lost to Melb in elimination and subsequently finished the year 8th
Who cares
Nowhere near Lyons dominant side with a weaker list

The delay is totally to do with support staff/ coaches. We are hoping one commits

I wonder if one of the support staff is Cripps as the new List Manager....

Yep, that's exactly what the turd said. May be a fair to middling coach but he is a pretty ordinary human being.

Ball was a treacherous grub who didn’t like being told he needed to add to his game
NOT the difference in 09
And a Filth player talk about him on opposition forum
