Posted on the AFL Trade Hub a couple of hours ago :

RACE FOR TIGERS FORWARD DOWN TO TWO
Richmond's Dan Butler has been linked to multiple clubs, but the race for his services looks like it's down to two teams. St Kilda and Carlton lead the race for the small forward, according to his manager Alex McDonald.

Carlton's GM of list management and strategy Stephen Silvagni said Butler was 'not in the picture', while list manager Michael Agresta said there was 'some' interest in the small forward as recently as two days ago. McDonald sought clarification on where the Blues sit.

Sounds like we're possibly front runners due to Carlton's ambivalence. Did I mention that I hate bloody Carlton?

Dan Butler

FACEPALM

Seriously, the football department are incompetent, clueless and completely out of their depth.

Signed McKenzie for three years which is mind boggling stupidity.

St.kilda already have a genuine star in the making in Ben Long and a plethora of small forwards to choose from.

Recruited Kent last year on a three year contract which is another stupid decision.
Should have got whatever they could have for Lonie last year.

Did no one watch the last game against Sydney?
Lonie was abysmal.
He could not hit a target fifteen meters away, couldn't make the distance from thirty metres out and most of his kicks were turn overs.
Lonie is a waste of time and a waste of a selection.

St.kilda don't need any more very average small forwards.

Lonie, Kent, Butler are definitely not required.

Last year they were keen on Menzel until he played an absolute shocker in Geelong's last final.

The football department is on training wheels with absolutely no clue whatsoever.

Enough already

Ffs neither Butler or Gray are better than our small forwards and if they are it is only marginal

How about the coaches try and develop a forward system that works, rather than shuffle deck chairs

Having dog paddled my way through your sea of negativity, I make the following observations.

Way too rough on Lonie. One bad game doesn't equate to a bad footballer. Lonie played more good games for the Saints than bad.

Dean Butler is rated by the Tigers, who are the reigning premiers. He is being squeezed out because they have too many players like him.

He was pretty good in the best team in the competition. Recruiting him, if we do, is not clueless.

Sorry.

Trading in players from Richmond rarely ends well for us.

But, we already have plenty of average small forwards each playing for peanuts, why add another - when what we need is a really good one playing for macadamia nuts?

Less (as in, less duplication) is more.

I was not advocating getting him. I was just pointing out if they did that his trade cost would be small or free.

Not sure about that - we did pretty well out of the Barrot / Stewart deal

I think its easy to say "he was fringe in prem side" but remember a good side can make a c grade player look better. He wont be a b grade in another team. Both Savage and Trent-Nichols? were emegengies in prem sides.

Channel Seven saying he’s likely to come to us. Also saying Cats will get Steven for “almost nothing”

and so we should. It should have happened years ago as its cost us a lot in so many ways. Reputation, Performance, etc

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

channel 7 and Fox seem to I will happen. Fox thinks Geelongs list manager is just posturing and Jack will be traded for either 36 or 37 from the Kelly trade. Goddard (trade talk) suggested pick 37 as the option too.
