Will be Smith or Rankine.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

I’ll be surprised if it isn’t Max King. Best player in the draft that will slide to our pick due to doing his ACL.

Unfortunately living in Perth I don't get to see much of the players only the high lights reel & what I read so really can't make an informed opinion . What do you people in the know think of the King boys obviously from Victoria so no worry of home sickness & is one better than the other or should we go for a crow eater & Is there any chance Walsh will slide to number 4 ? I would really appreciate your feedback :D

so who is in charge of the recruitment team ?
who is the chief talent spotter ?
and who makes the final call on whether Rankine, Smith or King are higher on our priority list ?

If Rankine was from Melbourne he'd be my number one choice but we just can't afford to lose a kid wanting to go home after his two years are up. We'd probably get another first round pick back and lose two years of development when we need to be bringing in guys who can be playing very good footy in the next 2-3 years.

My preferences

1 - Walsh
2 - Smith
3 - Rankine
4 - Lukosius

If we recruit King I will be furious. Unless we've somehow managed to bring in Hannebery and Gaff/Shiel/Wingard and in the process traded out McCartin

I don’t know how so many people can make calls on who to draft.

The TAC comp isn’t on telly so unless people have watched a lot of kids footy it’s juts what you read.

Who is the draft guru in the media now Emma Quayle has gone to clubland?

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/09/18/ ... r's-draft/
Hawthorn great Terry Wallace has urged St Kilda to target South Australian young gun Izak Rankine at this year’s National Draft.

Rankine, 18, is rated as one of the most exciting talents in the 2018 draft, and looks almost certain to be taken inside the top five.

Te Saints, who currently hold pick four, are looking for additional midfield class and Wallace believes the classy midfielder/forward is the type of player that fits the bill.

“It’s depending on what they’re looking for,” Wallace told SEN Afternoons.

“I think its class through the midfield is the way that they need to go.

“I would think that Izak Rankine is the guy that would stand out to me as the one they should be looking at.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Izak Rankine and not wanting to leave South Australia and if you get him he will be back in two years, so you would have to do your due diligence on all that before making a decision.

“A Dan Hannebery working alongside an Izak Rankine teaching him the right work ethic and the way that needs to go about his football, isn’t a bad start.

“Izak Rankine would be my answer.”

Rankine was selected in the Under 18 All-Australian team after a string of impressive performances for South Australia in the National Championships.

Wallet wanting us to target this years Tambling. Typical. Meanwhile Max King becomes the next Buddy Franklin.

If Rankine is a clear gun that wants to go home in 2 years... you don’t lose. You’ll get overs back into return.

Plus 2 years is a long time... Judd apparently told WCE he’d leave in 2 years but hung around for a bit

Or Rankine is the next Andew McLeod and Max King the next Tyrone Vickery.

Send Dunstan and one other player to Carlton for an upgrade from pick 4 to pick 1. Then we get exactly what we want

If we could get pick one would we be likely to go for Lukosius (sp?) or would Walsh be or likely target.

I don't know the talents of the kids in the draft but my concern with Rankine is he is quite small and we already have too many small bodied players.

We cannot afford another bust and Rankine could be anything or nothing, in my opinion of course.
Why could he be nothing?

Are there issues surrounding him?

If it was open season on recruiting, everyone would be trying to sign both the King boys. I'd say anybody here who says they don't want them probably actually just prefers someone else or wants a player from a different position - probably a mid. The Kings are absurdly athletic for kids of that size and they're contested marking machines. I think the big issue is their kicking. In his only TAC game for the year, Ben kicked 8.6 (some clips from the game below) and put at least one out on the full. Ben kicked 5.5 over the weekend. So in that sense, they're projects for our resident goalkicking guru (...) if either or both wind up here. They're clearly exceptional talents though.

In terms of how the actual draft is going to pan out, it's worth keeping an eye out for Callum Twomey's articles on the official website. He doesn't insert his own opinions too much in proceedings and usually gets his info by brute force, hounding club recruiters to get whatever information he can. Right now he has Walsh as the number 1 prospect. That matches the whispers going around the internet. I should stress that I'm certainly not an ITK. In fact, I know very little of anything. Supposedly, Carlton are going to take Walsh, then Gold Coast will take Lukosius. Gold Coast will trade the third pick to Adelaide, who will take Rankine which will leave us a choice between the King boys or some midfielders that aren't at the level of Walsh or Rankine.

The only vaguely plausible scenario that has Walsh lasting to our pick is if Carlton decide to take Lukosius and then Gold Coast decide they're going to build their team around the twins. Gold Coast have taken a lot of mid types in recent years and they already have an extra first round pick from West Coast. If they lose May, they could have 5 picks in the top 25 before even considering trading pick 3. They're also likely to wind up with Bailey Scott at a relative bargain as an academy player. So I would say it's possible, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Rankine seems more likely than Walsh. King seems the most likely, however, since he's coming back from a season ending injury, can't kick straight and he plays a position that's already overcrowded. A perfect fit.

EDIT: catastrophic formatting failure.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

What will Adelaide give up for pick 3?
Pick 8 plus a player I guess?
Tom Lynch or Paul Seedsman. Would have to be something like that.
That way the Suns can get Lukosius + Rozee + pick 17 + a Seedsman type. All in the first round.

Here’s Knightmares right up for Max King (if you don’t know KM, he pbly the most knowledgeable forumite around drafting and I think covers the draft for ESPN)

5. Max King (VIC)
Best position: Key forward/ruckman
Height, weight: 202cm, 85kg
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Projected draft range: 2-10
Plays like: Joe Daniher
Rationale: Out for the season with a torn ACL. As difficult to defend inside 50m as any junior key forward in recent years.
August Ranking: 5
Strengths:
Height
Long arms
Takes front position in marking contests
Body positioning in the contest
Draws free kicks inside 50m
Jumps towards the ball when taking marks
Contested marking
One-on-one marking
Marks at the highest point
Clean at ground level
Leap
Mobility
Leading patterns
Weaknesses:
Endurance
Work rate
Rarely pushes up outside the forward 50m arc
Conversion in front of goal

On Walsh, I’d be pretty stunned if he makes it to 4
