When you spend all day on the ball you’re bound to pick up a few possessions.
Unless your name in Longer and you are up against Gawn.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

4 Games, 3 Wins!!!!!

Max got most of he's touches playing a kick behind play on the wing!!!!!

On Hickeys AFL form, 3 wins would take 3 seasons!!!!!

I take the wins, say what you like, its irrelevant, unless your playing for second place, then play Hickledik!!!!!

Have to give you credit Stoney, your ability to have a loose grip on reality is quite admirable!

We lost the hit outs and clearances, Gawn absolutely smashed Longer and was the highest ranked player and BOG by a mile. He got touches in defence, attack and the middle, having 8 score involvements. Yet you still stubbornly stick by Longer!!

Can’t say you’re not loyal! Delusional also... 😉

Why the need to be offensive?

Not offensive, I think maybe just your generation is more easily offended than others.

I’m having a light hearted crack at Stoney and he has a light hearted crack back, we know where we stand :)

Not allowed to refer to a bloke by his nickname?????

Commonly acknowledged by those who know!!!!!

4 games for 3 wins, Max gets 25 touches as a ruckman and guess what, Melb lose!!!!!

Sounds like Hicklediks record, haha!!!!!

If Hickledik played today, we lose, check the facts!!!!!

4 games this year, 3 wins, Hickledik would have to play 3 seasons for 3 wins, based on this years form!!!!!

It's a co-incidence and nothing else. Sure Longer did ok in the ruck contests, but we did not win solely based on Longer's rucking. Did GWS win last night because of Dawson Simpson's rucking? Did the Doggies win because of Tom Boyd's rucking?

If you think you're a lucky charm, I've got news for ya...Longer is easily replaced big fella

We just need a rabbits foot or a horse shoe :D  :D

Again from a screen but Number 11 for Melbourne was clearly BOG and was the reason the result was as close as it was

Plus on the 2 occasions players under pressure kicked to Longer guess what happened?

Melbourne ran away with the ball, Longer running at full pace making the Melbourne players look like Usain Bolt on steroids

I admit Longer brings a physical edge pushing opposition players around when the ball is not in play - and is right up there with Dawson when he played full back for us

We have missed Dawson’s physicality - but now we have Longer to fill the void

I dont want to start a slanging match - but you cant say that here and then defend to the hilt the elevation of Gilbert in another thread.
positives...
Great to see Minch hitting the score board heavily its what we need
Bruce is back{?}
And I know it will never happen with our coaching staff - but - I just think the combination of Hickey and Marshall gives us so much versatility. We desperately need to find that ruck/rotating forward that can avg a goal a game
My two comments are not in conflict ffs.

Gilbert is paid a lot of money. If his form warrants it, he should be selected in the seniors, ALONG with any kids who deserve a game.

I don't intend to back away from my comments and I'm not usually into denigrating loyal clubmen.
What in the hell had someone’s salary got to do with selection criteria? Bizarre comment

Gawn was BOG, and beat Longer, should have kicked a goal, but his effect on the game was not devastating. He took a lot of marks behind the play, quite a few in the backline when Longer did not venture forward with him, probably under instructions. Unlike previous weeks a lot of passes were to leading forwards, much less bombing, thus avoiding Gawn. Good tactics finally.

Longer was certainly a physical presence, and Gawn got off the turf a few times and at least knew he was in a contest. I think the mids are more confident with Longer in the middle. We were ahead on clearances while the game was being won, Melb only pulled ahead in the last few mins.

It is good Hickey is playing well, but I think Longer is in next week.

Well said mate. I am actually more in the Hickey camp than the Billy camp, but fair's fair. Longer did a very good job today as Gawn was absolutely on fire. Although we may never know, Hickey on Gawn today may have meant that Gawn won the game for the Dees. I am going to stand by my conviction that we need to play two rucks EVERY match, especially when a key position player goes down mid-game and we find ourselves in the unenviable position of playing a foreign-born first gamer on one of the most dangerous forwards going around. Hickey and Longer should both play next week for this reason. I know you don't rate Tom Stonecold, but the fact is he can be damaging around the ground, and we are going to need this next week with blokes like Ryder running around for the opposition. By the way, well done Billy!

Sorry Stoney, but if Gawn doesn't play we win by 10 goals plus. he kept them in the contest for the first 3 quarters

No Brown next week.
Did Goddard to enough to get a crack at Dixon or go back to Austin?

The games in which Longer has led us to victory...
a few goals win vs Brisbane
a 3 point win vs GC
and against a Melbourne team that many say is overrated and had lost it's last 3... and he was beaten

it's the bias I can't stand...

oh the humanity

He did get some positive press this past week too...but also tempting to see what Austin can do too, given he'd have played simulations against this ex-team mates. Brown shut Dixon down nicely last time, so if he's able to get back, he's an in IMO.

There's no rule against it here Stoney.

Was Longer taken off in the first quarter because of injury, or because he couldn't impact several early contests which directly resulted in 3 of the first goals to Melbourne? I think Josh Battle went into the ruck and...low and behold we kicked some goals.

Maybe Longer went off because Gawn had a rest but anyhow, found it intersting that we got back into the game with Longer off the ground

Gawn got sucked into a rope a dope scenario and Billy played a big part. As Stonecold mentions, Gawn had a great game playing defensive wing. Did some great defensive work, saved them from a 5 goal defeat, but offered zilch offensively. They wore him down, every ruck contest Billy inflicted punishment and I thought broke even. Most of Gawn's hitouts landed at his feet, nullified. He was knackered by three quarter time. Also, at many times Gawn allowed others to contest stoppages in their forward half while he waited a kick behind. Win, win for us. Thank you Billy boy.
