But if McCartin was worth his salt, he wouldn't be spilling bread and butter marks inside 50m.

I have been pretty surprised at his marking efforts inside 50, just does not fill me with confidence especially one on one. I think he is much better further out.

I don't think Membrey is a 'designated bring it to the front of the pack guy'.

He actually attacks the contest with the intention of marking the pill, as opposed to bringing it to the front.

That is a real worry isn't it?

Doesn't happen outside the 5o metre circle so it must be a nerve thing

I think it's a coaching thing. He's losing his instinct to mark, because he's being coached to bring it to the front of the pack.

Up the ground, he just marks it. And he's good at it.

Yeah it sure is a bit of a mystery. Perhaps also psychological given the amounts of whacks he has taken to the scone. And having his teammates constantly muffing kicks to him inside 50m wouldn't help his case either. Yeah I reckon you could be onto something in terms of coaching, Rodger. With any luck, a good forward line coach should be able to help him remedy this problem.

I just think he should be coached to forget the whole 'bring it to the front' thing and just mark everything that comes his way.

Does that go for Bruce then too? He went from clunking everything in 2015 to the flat hand man he is now

Yes.

Although he is experienced enough to be able to know when to mark, and when to bring it to the front.

A 22yo, no. 1 draft pick key forward needs to be taught to mark now, and then as he gets older he can do the whole 'team rules' thing.

Bit like Jack Riewoldt. Learn the art of being a key forward first. Learn the rest later.
