Count me in. A joey replacement. A bit small at 177cm, but does look very clean. Very good disposal, can get his own ball, and does have some very good pace.

I would not be unhappy.

I have this on extremely good authority as well. I can guarantee that our pick 14 will be described as a 'slider' :D

Ah that clears it up for me.
I can almost guarantee that it will be the steal of the draft.

It will be astounding that he lasted until pick 14.

We want "gliders" - possibly like Rioli, Oliver, Milera (if you can judge them from their highlights) who just glide along, seemingly creating space and time at will and doing things easily - who are not stuck in the 3 dimensional world like the rest of the run-of-the-mill midfielders.

Every recruiter says that for just about every pick.

I'm sure we said it about Kosi.

Picking the precious gem @ 14

Post: # 1588713Post the dome »

Well having genuine foresight of who will be able to realise their potential the most and achieve it is certainy the task at hand for our Saintly recruiting team. I can't help feeling that our pick @ 14 in a few weeks time will be The crucial inclusion from this season's trading/ drafting period.
The positive vibes for Burton, Rioli, Oliver & Greesham certainly focuses the mind. So far i've only seen a bit of Rioli on a highlights reel l& he did look like he could 'glide' through the heat of the moment and make the play.
After what we have seen with J.C. I hope the footy gods look favourably on our choice of player at 14.

Would be stunned if we picked Rioli at 14.

Plenty of better players will be available at that pick, he has talent but would not think he is a top twenty pick.

My nephew played at the Rebels this year and Rioli was not the standout.

Player to watch for next year is Jarrod Berry he can seriously play the game.

Rioli seems to have that Rioli magic, however I thought his disposal was not great.

Out of all of the ones I have looked at Gresham would be my pick, but wont be unhappy about Matho or Tucker either

He really reminds me of an Adelaide player. They always have a heap of contest ball winning mids with solid bodies. He has elements of Danger, Sloane and Risccuto even.

I don't get the Rioli thing. Pedigree is all I have seen so far. If someone can show me some highlights where his kicking is better I'd be happy to watch. I'd keep Lonie and Sinclair if I was forced to choose.

I am starting to lean strongly towards Tucker I must admit.....

My order of preference:

Tucker
Oliver
Milera
Bonner
Mathieson

Look I hope Rioli makes it but I think he is more like a pick 30-40 realistically.

His highlights look bloody exciting. Just looks like an absolute gun. Will be interested to see how he goes.

I am warming to DT.

I am rather glad we will be missing out on Parish. Doesnt do much for me. Reminds me of the kind of neat player that Melbourne go for (e.g Jack Trengove) that never really takes off at AFL level.

HAPPY
Tucker
Bonner
Rioli
Ah Chee
Oliver
*Clarke

UNHAPPY
Matheison
Gresham
Balic

Tucker has it all. Vic country boy, left foot skilled, courage and size
Gresham too small and less skill. Matheison isnt a top 30 for me.
Bonner would be great what skill! Both sides and has great mark and size BUT from SA.
I want a team of vic country boys, which so far we are doing.
DT is perfect.

I wasnt sure on Oliver. He may be good and maybe nothing.
If the club took him id get on board He was top ten agility which surprises me. We need BIG midfielders and he would be the biggest. A vic country boy so Im in.

Clarke seems good wouldnt be unhappy but just think theres more special playwrs out there
Balic?? Nothing special there.

I think Ah Chee has tremendous upside. His body looks like it could get big like his brother and he has that outside run and carry with polish that we sorely lack.

14 is realistic now for Ah Chee given his relatively quiet Championships and Trout, Libba and co would have been following his progress closely since his U/16 days (unlike Rioli, Oliver etc who have came hard late). Richo has said numerous times that he wants outside speed and Ah Chee has this in spades.

From the interviews I have seen he appears to be a really level headed and mature kid who should be very coachable.

Yeah it's a pretty low standard he's playing at but the way he plays has a level confidence you only see in the guns. I reckon he could be something special. He's not the type that wins beep tests or has elite stats. He just knows how to play footy.

I dont follow the logic of Mathieson. If the club want a clearance player and think he is good - that is fine.

But does that mean they dont rate Dunstan, Acres and/or Ross?

If they dont rate these three to be good in clearances well then we should have traded one of them. If they DO rate these three guys in clearances then we dont need Matho.

The way I see it either:

a) Get Matho but trade out one of Dunstan, Ross, Acres
b) Back in Ross, Dunstan, Acres as clearance specialists and bring in some more balanced players who can provide some outside run (Milera, Oliver, Bonner, Tucker).

Everyone knows we lack pace and outside run. I dont see the point of having 5 or 6 slow guys trying to win the clearances (including Armo). It just doesnt seem like a balanced list to me.
