He started off as a poor shot for goal, but Stewart Loewe's 59% mostly from CHF is arguably as good as Lockett's 69% from FF (20 metres closer in).

What would Lockett's % be if he was kicking from 20 metres further out on average?
I'm sure it wouldn't be 69%.

That makes a pretty solid case for Lockett being our best shot for goal, at least since records have been kept.

I know if I had to pick someone to kick for goal to win a match I'd go Lockett every time. Loewe, not so much, though he was a big improver from his early days

Can anyone find Mark Scott's stats?
(I think there may have bee two Mark Scotts. The one I'm talking about came from Hawthorn i think, and played mainly in the reserves. But his straight kicking was just extraordinary.)

Mark Scott may have kicked well but I do, I think, remember him once missing from the goal square in the early 80s

I wasn't around then, but is it this guy?

34 games for St Kilda, kicked 110 goals and 46 behinds. 70% accuracy. But in 1980 he kicked 48.14 - 77% is a pretty solid season!

For mine.
1. Plugger
2. Bill Young
3. Jason Heatley
4. G-Train
5. Kevin Roberts

i was going to do another one....best saints field kicks , kevin roberts was to be included there....so here goes

!. dave mcnamara
2. jimmy ross
3. kevin roberts
4. john mcintosh
5. george young

some beautiful left foot kicks there.....the pelican would love them......kevin could kick a dropkick 75 metres......

Stinger Roberts could not drop kick 75 metres at all. If he kicked it 55 metres it would have been a great kick. Unsure how you know McNamara was a great field kick. He may have kicked it long but im unsure place kicks would be good in an actual game. Think he may have been a better coach than a field kick.
Don"t tell Tony Ongarello that!

Thanks for finding that!!

Mark Scott was tall and thin, and gave the impression of being a little bit soft. I felt some sympathy for him, and enjoyed watching him quietly going about his craft.
Without being sensational, he was really really good at it.
One game in 1980, v Carlton, he kicked 9.1 from 11 kicks (7 marks)
In the last five games of 1982 he kicked 27 goals.
Then basically disappeared.

So, statistically, for anyone who kicked 100 goals or more for St Kilda -- he's our most accurate goal kicker in our history?

Yes.
Trivia question, who is our most accurate with over 50 goals?
Who is our most accurate with over 10 goals?

Dunno about 50, but Matty Capuano kicked 13 straight for the Saints. 100% accuracy is going to be pretty hard to beat.

70.51 to be precise

Yes
I had Rodney Galt as the other answer but his first year he kicked 18 in 1971 when behinds weren't recorded on AFL tables.

Yes! Malcolm Scott -- good get. For a moment he looked OK too.

But anyway, let me now adjust my Best Ever:

Mark Scott 70.5%
Tony Lockett 69.9%
Jason Heatley
67.?%

Mind you, because Scott didn't do much more than mark and kick, he probably had a higher proportion of set shots than the other two.

What was Milnie's record one year? -- most goals straight without a behind?

I saw him play a few times. He used to loiter around the goal square, rarely more than 20m out. A leftie from memory.

Plugger's best sequence was 29 straight when he was with the swines, including 16 straight against the 'Roys at the Whitten Oval.

How anyone can't have Plugger as number one is beyond me?
They must have been born in the 90s?
He was the best kick for goal ever so he must be the best of all time at the saints!

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

1. Lockett, enough said
2. Heatley, did kick 4.8 in a game at Waverley once. Must have been windy although cant quite remember
3. Craig O'Brien, underated
4. G'Train, was so good at pointing to the mark and as the player looked down he would wheel of on the arc and slot it from 50
5. Winmar, they used to just float in the air with very few revolutions. Would lob them from 30 out and they'd land just over the line into big Stewie's hands

and that's the bottom line

He's kicked 29.26 in his career, so I suppose quite a lot.
