Ross will become fixated on some VFL standard player like Zack Dawson or Andrew Mcqualter and continually play them week after week costing us games.
Like Richo did with Luke Dunstan?
Or Newnes who couldn’t get dropped

Hope the club takes note of all those who won’t renew their memberships solely because of Ross Lyon and puts them firmly at the end of the line for Grand Finals tickets.

For those still potting Lyon the person ….I suggest you go listen to Joe Riewoldt (Nicks dad) who rang SEN yesterday as he’d had a gutfull of people potting Lyon and not knowing the person who he is….especially after the death of Nick’s sister

Lyon is much maligned and a perfect media villain ….but suspect that’s how some wanted him painted
The media thread on BF has the full article on why he left Saints and fair to say the incompetence of our then CEO is astounding….they even appointed Watters after Lyon ,..hired and paid for a car for him then left in car yard without collecting it!!

Apologies Teffers… I’ll stop quoting you. This is the last one for now, scout’s honour (you’re just on fire with provocative, fun discussion).

I don’t know why anyone would now.

I was contemplating finally ending my streak in terms of membership before the sacking. Football is all a bit boring for me now… bought a Kayo subscription for the year and watched a handful of games all up.
St.Kilda as well… quite boring. Same mistakes again and again. The old lack of professional standards glaring obviously…

But even as a noted Lyon hater (not the personal one but the overrated card)… to be honest, everything is already more interesting.
Looks at us in the media… this site has come to life… and most intriguing of all, Lyon has never come to a team that didn’t recently play in prelim on the background of a few previous finals campaigns.

Whatever questions/uncertainties/doubts etc that people have on his ability… well we’re going to get some definitive answers one way or the other.
If Lyon gets this list into a prelim or better in 2-3 years… heck even his harshest critics like me can’t ignore the facts.

If we flounder for 4 years and he’s sacked in 4.5 and we’re worse on than now…
Well, the scales tip a bit more in favour of the ‘it was the list all along’ direction.

Regardless of the outcome. It’s super interesting. I’m not as confident as yourself… but I love the club and want to believe so stick it to me I say.

This is death or glory. And for once l believe it’s glory. Nothing much was going to happen next year, now everything will happen next year. Enjoy. And we are now newsworthy again.

I think you’re right - we feel immediately more relevant
Honestly next season I was dreading….felt like we were stuck in a rut and was prepared to write the year off already
Now I’m intrigued…
No, we won’t be top 4 as lost has weaknesses (it’s not what Lyon took over in 2008)
But that’s part of it - so many questions:
1. What’s Lyons footy philosophy now?? Can he evolve?
2 List is not as good…can he develop? Can he relate to younger players ?
3. How will he handle 666 centre square? Or stand at mark changes ??
4. What immediate changes will Lyon make? Keep Vattke in defence/forward? Etc
5. Who gets first spray?
6. Which players gets bruised ego wants out first?
7. How will he/Walsh /Lethlean work ???
8. New forward Assistabt?
9. Will Max King grow/develop be encouraged to lead? (I read on BF he was asked to stand shoulder to shoulder with opponents bring ball to ground…what a stupid approach for a guy who when he takes 2 steps and jumps can’t be spoiled??
10. Could we hit 70k members???
Imagine Rd 1 at Marvel ….gonna be fascinating
I do think it will take time to adjust - it has at all Lyon clubs but the standards he’ll bring are most important
Strap in as Rossy says..

just remember how awkward we were playing in lyon's first year - missed finals for the first time since 2003. the entire list needs to learn his game. patience, but i have a feeling this place will be divided if we take one step back.

"Awkward' is a strange word for unfit.
The Lyon game plan required players to run back to defend then to run for forward and spread when possession was restored.
Most of the players could not sustain it, they were exhausted.
Opponents would win the last minutes of the quarter and then overwhelm in the final quarter.
But he stuck with the game plan, the players got a lot fitter and then things improved.

But the big difference is this time he does not have 10 greedy top players consuming most the salary cap.
Instead he has a team that maybe only has a couple of players of the same quality as those 10.
If only those 10 had wanted a premiership they would have left room to import 2 more top players and created multiple premierships.
Players need to tell their agents I want premierships and will sacrifice for that end.

Not happy with this as mentioned on other threads. Ross Lyons is not the coach we need at present. Quite simply he is not a development coach rather he is a fine tuning specialist. We were good when he took us over last time and we became great due to previous coaches setting the foundation. Then he left and we had no youth coming thru with developed skills.

He then went to freo and did the same. And once freo lost their older guns they sucked again real quick.

My only hope is that it is a one year deal while we find our next long term coach

So it's back to the future. We officially have no new ideas. I expect the delay has been something to do with Lyon trying to make sure the deal was in the best interests of the st Kilda football club. Hahaha.

It's all a gamble my friend....

Did you know that Richo WAS considered THE PREMIER development coach as an assistant in the AFL when we hired him?

That'd a fact. I heard several interviews after his appointment where explayers and coaches praised his abilities to grow culture & shape players in such a way that average became very good and very good became champions.

I am another one that isn't full of enthusiasm for this and the complete lack of process in finding a new coach.
As I said before, it feels more like a coup than a process.
Now here's the danger of this, the results next year are going to be far more under the microscope next year.
If we begin winning, but win ugly with low scores we will end up being buried into Sunday twilight and other non rating times for TV coverage.
Also, we will suffer a fall off in attendance because we will be so bad to watch, even if we are winning.
Being buried on TV and lower attendances doesn't attract sponsorship, or players.
Plus, as Scott found out, that style of game does not win premierships so we're going find out if a Lyon can change his spots.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Agree that Ricoh may have been a developer but that is why he should never have been head coach, great second banana.

As for any praising the Ross Lyon selection all I’d say is yes it’s a gamble and I hope I am wrong but please google freemantle 2016 season. That’s what we have installed for us

Regardless of who the coach is, if we remain injury free (relative to other teams), we can be the 7-3 St Kilda (or was it the 8-3 St Kilda, this year?).

Success is 99% luck with injury plus the strength of the list ... and 1% the coach (but if the coach can demonstrably reduce the occurrence of soft tissue injuries, etc.. with better training and recovery techniques, I'd lift their influence to 40%, even).

As RTB is still a 'media personality' unless/until he gets the poisoned chalice, I will say this:

At Freo, according to several publicly viewable article, he was accused of inappropriate behaviour towards at least one staffer.
Allegedly commented on her 'budding breasts' (she was 2 months pregnant at the time)

Anyways...
