Armo copped a knee injury in 2010 as well.

You have a guy like Jack Steven available back then and sitting in stands. Instead, our genius coach plonks Eddy or Dempster in the forward line as a taggers/defenders. Unbelievable!! This was one of the main reasons that we lost grand finals.

So the footy is in the vicinity of your forward half, but you have been instructed to make sure you defend. Goals can only occur incidently or if they are as a result of a dirct kick to your planned target go to tall forwad. Ludicrous!! How'about selecting forwards that play with natiral instincts and actually want to win the footy and kick a bloody goal!!

Yeah but he is still a genius and a great coach
10000%. Imagine having Jack Steven and David Armitage in our 2009 and 2010 GF teams instead of say, Eddy and McQualter.

Fv%k.
That is salivating Saintmatt. My "what ifs / imaginings" include Judd, Cyril & Jack Riewoldt being on that list instead of Ball, McEvoy & Armo (if my dodgy memory is correct).

Scollop wrote: Fri 16 Aug 2019 12:57pm Jack was named as an emergency I believe in the grand final. So pretty difficult to go with the 'he was injured' line and that's why he wasn't selected

When I first joined the forum I had a running battle with plugger66 who kept pushing the theme that Jack had OP. Most of the stuff plugger66 posted was apologist myth to counter the arguments.
I remember seeing him and the other emergency..? Armo or Geary....can't remember ...having a kick to kick out on the ground prior to the game...so as usual plugger 66 was full of s***..

This is the line that apologists have been clinging too since 2010 even post David Mission’s book when our then fitness guy specifically debunks it.

The tough reality is that when looking the rhyme and reason to our lack of success, some people look at the things that our club has control over and the bad decisions we’ve made...and they demand the club get better

Others like to zero in hyperbolic scenarios like injury curses and umpiring conspiracies... they unfortunately inhibit our ability to improve.

Maybe someone needs to start a thread called ‘Finals fun fact’ instead of ‘Eddy fun fact’ to remind us all.

To make it worse Steven kicked 3 in his AFL debut against the cats in 2010.

What was Plugger right with?

That Steven had OP in 09 or 10?

He played ok at Sandy for someone with OP... and why would he be playing at all with OP

Armo should definitely played 2009
Steven in 2010

Pretty sure he made his debut against Hawthorn the year before. It was our 19th consecutive win.

Sorry but your 2010 group is wrong

I've googled several sites including saints.com and they have J Steven as an emergency in 2010

Spot on

Lyon should have utilised the whole list more in both years. We went into the 2010 GF with Dal Santo injured and Gramm looked like he was also injured

I think whichever way you splice it up... as good as he did to get us there, RL absolutely butchered GF selection in both 09 and 10

Like I said, many RL apologists have run with the Steven OP line for years to justify what was just plain woeful selection.
Lyon chose Eddy and Dempster as forwards ahead of Armitage and Steven.

Master coach or not he absolutely bellied up there

The Saints have named their final team who will once again take on Collingwood in the 2010 Grand Final Replay this Saturday at the MCG.

Young ruckman Ben McEvoy will come in to replace his mentor to complete the 22 players for the game.

Please see the full St Kilda team list below;

Followers: Ben McEvoy / Lenny Hayes / Clinton Jones
Interchange: Andrew McQualter / James Gwilt / Steven Baker / Sean Dempster
Emergencies: Jarryn Geary / Rhys Stanley / David Armitage

In: B.McEvoy
Out: M.Gardiner (hamstring)

Perspective for the delusional.

Bickering over GF selections on players that weren’t in the best 22 all season (and confusing their form with their form in later years).

Meanwhile this mob just lost to Carlton, 10 years on & no finals campaigns since 2011.

Armo
3 Brownlow votes
R19 2009

Highest StK player in Sandringham B&F 2009 he was 21 and in good form. But Ross did not show any faith in him.

Let’s face it, Ross botched selection and it may have been the difference between winning and losing. He also botched it in the box on GF day.
