Andrew McGrath
Midfielder
179cm/75kg
2/6/98
Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro

McGrath's elite junior athletics background comes through in his play. The former high jumper, triple-jumper, hurdler and runner brings out those traits when on the field, with the Sandringham Dragons prospect often taking the game on with his dash and dare. McGrath separates himself from the pack within moments, and uses his top-end agility to get out of trouble in tight areas. Enjoyed a complete game for the Dragons last month when he collected 44 disposals, 14 clearances and 19 tackles against Gippsland.
Apparently had a blinder today.

SA 10.6 66
VM 9.15 69
179cm/75kg = pass. Steven and Gresh already dedicated little midfielders We need more height in there.

Tend to agree. We also have Temps, Sinclair, Dunstan, Lonie making up the midget fleet.

Hugh McCluggage or Will Brodie for me.

Vic Country v SA on this Friday at Etihad.

Luke Dunston is 6 foot 1 hardly a midget!!! And both Eli and Sinclair are over 180cm.

I dont know why anyone is worried that Hawthorn is interested in a certain player. Our pick will be well ahead of Hawthorns.

Con is right regarding our midfield - Armo & Newnes are the only two who have any ability above their heads. Gilbert cant be considered a mid. We need a large bodied mid who can also be a danger in the air. Acres may become that but still a way off. Billings was meant to be a good overhead mark but we havent seen it?

Look at Geelongs current mids they are all competent over head as well as there other strengths.

Best Smokey in this years draft was overlooked for National Championships, but is ripping it to bits in the TAC Cup in the last five weeks. He's the best Athlete going round and can play anywhere on the field, as I stated earlier, the Hawks are all over him!!!!!

Here is a good draftee ranking website if people are interested:

https://afldraftcentral.com.au/rankings/

Note that GWS are going to get another bunch of top 10 picks. At this rate they might finish top 4 but still get 2 or 3 draftees in the top 10.

SA beat Vic Country at Etihad.

This means a championship play-off between VM and SA looms.

VIC COUNTRY 2.0 3.5 4.10 9.11 (65)
SOUTH AUSTRALIA 6.0 9.4 11.8 11.10 (76)

GOALS
Vic Country: McCluggage 3, Ainsworth, Battle, Atley, Fowler, Battle, Worpel
South Australia: Jarman 3, Coleman-Jones, Pitman, Stengle, Ladhams, Villis, Hayward, Scharenberg, Lebois

BEST
Vic Country: McCluggage, Ainsworth, Worpel, Atley, Piper, Brodie
South Australia: Pitman, Graham, Scharenberg, Stengle, Villis, Jarman

Hugh McCluggage, in contention as a top-five pick come the end of the season, was a clear standout for Country with 17 disposals and three goals, working tirelessly through the midfield.

McCluggage's ability to weave through traffic provided a bright spot for Country, while Ben Ainsworth, also in the mix as a high selection, gave his team plenty of energy through the midfield and up forward with 20 disposals and four inside 50s.

Once again we need to look at what the non-AFL states are serving up.
The Allies got close to VM and yet we rarely look at their players. This indicates there must be a bargain there.

VIC METRO 5.1 5.6 6.9 10.14 (74)
ALLIES 0.5 4.7 6.10 8.12 (60)

GOALS
Vic Metro: Hayes 3, Kerr 2, Venables, Lyons, Higgins, Daicos, Brown
Allies: Sproule 2, Brown, Hampton, Allison, Rolls, Perryman, Marshall

BEST
Vic Metro: Clarke, McGrath, Lyons, Hayes, Ridley, Bunker
Allies: Perryman, Bowes, Mutch, Scheer, Allison, Spargo

VIC COUNTRY 3.1 4.3 10.5 10.6 (66)
ALLIES 3.2 4.7 6.8 10.10 (70)

GOALS

Vic Country: Battle 4, Brodie, Piper, O'Brien, McCluggage, Fowler, Ainsworth
Allies: Marshall 3, Maguire 2, Williams, Olango, Sproule

BEST
Vic Country: Brodie, Atley, Battle, Worpel, O'Brien, Fowler, Drew
Allies: Mutch, Hampton, Scheer, Long, Perryman, Maguire, Marshall

The Allies held on to clinch their first victory of the Championships as Vic Country pressed hard late in the game, winning 10.10 (70) to 10.6 (66).

Brodie, a classy 189cm midfielder, had a team-high 21 disposals and seven clearances to lead Country for much of the game, his team opening up a 27-point three-quarter time lead before the Allies stormed home.

As has been the case for much of the carnival, Koby Mutch continued to find plenty of the footy for the Allies, finishing with a match-high 28 disposals.

Jamie Hampton, the brother of Adelaide's Curtly, excelled in taking the game on, displaying his breakaway speed on the way to 20 touches and seven rebound 50s.

The biggest highlight of the game came in the second term as the Allies' Ben Long cleaned up Country's Myles Poholke with a huge bump on the outer side of Simonds Stadium.

Aside from the big hit, Long did a fantastic defensive job for the Allies, holding dangerous Country forward Ben Ainsworth (five touches and a goal) in check for much of the game.

South Australia's Jack Graham was named as the Larke Medallist, awarded to the best player in the Division One Championships.

How come there are less and less talented Tall players coming through the feeder comps ?

This years draft appears to be almost barren of talls.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?
