Not managing the salary cap efficiently in the mid 2000s.

Lack of risk taking in both the 2009 and 2010 GF.

Apart from the moves Lyon made in the second half of 2010, our game plan which was our strength in many respects, was too inflexible and was also a weakness.

Me being born. Yep, that's right. I was born January 1967. We haven't won a flag since. Feel free to sink the boots in. It's all my fault.

Not holding on to things though!!!
That 71 last quarter sticks in my head to.

Ball instead of Judd possibly cost us one or more flags. Hindsight is easy though.

Playing Eddy over Armo.

From memory, Armo was BOG against the Hawks not long before the finals, yet apparently not match fit or some rubbish.

The stupid "challenge" system in 1913 where the top H&A side (Fitzroy) could challenge the side that won both their finals matches (StKilda) to a play-off which we lost.

That 1913 side contained three superstars - Roy Cazaly, Wels Eicke, and Vic Cumberland.
Plus some more than handy 100 game players in Bill Woodcock, Billy Schmidt, Bob Bowden and Gordon Dangerfield.
And 200 gamer Harry Lever.

Coached by George Sparrow (who had a 59% win rate) it should have been our first premiership.

Fate cost us a flag. History says we probably deserved one but didn't get it, so we move on and look forward to the next opportunity.

Close call whether he was a definable as a 'young gun' inclusion in 2009 at 23yo.....We got him in the 2005 Draft..... I agree he was very good back then but didn't come into a GF side as a youngster.

2010- Sidebottom - 19
2011 - Christensen - 20
2012 - Parker 20/Hannebery - 22
2013 - B Hill - 20
2014 -B Hill - 21
(2015 - Freo - Hayden Crozier 21/Lachie Neale 22)

The excuse book for The Saints not winning any GF since '66 would probably be the biggest book ever written :-)

mmm.
... why is it we seem so brilliant at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory ?

Maybe we piss the Gods off , calling ourselves Saints.

... so to Win the thing ... we gotta beat em All ... at once
: the Afl
: the other teams
: the umpires
: 'n the dickheads who dont support us.
: the Gods.

seems like a fair Quest to me.
... car'n the Gulls.

... might be wise to have our First People get onside with a 'curse' removal
Ceremony as well.

and , if we are gunna call up our 'past players' to be involved in our Plan to Win the thing
... lets make sure our Past Players support network
(for those who are struggling with Life) is the best in the league.

I'll go with trading 6 & 31 for Barry Brooks in 2002.

While Salopek never turned into a star, he would have been a very handy player through 04 - 10.

Mackie, Winderlich, Schulz, Minson all came later

Luke Ball was a big moment player.

I will never forget that Rd 14 game vs the cats in 09, when big show took THAT mark.

I remember who kicked it to him.

Don't get me wrong, Luke was a very good player but Luke Ball version 2010 was not the same version 2007-2009.

Couldn't spread at the Saints.

Luke got himself very fit at the Pies and probably made up his mind to leave well before the end of 2009.

If he did, it was still because of his treatment by Lyon.
