What do Vincent Van Gogh & Chopper Read have in common?

They both listened to that song!

Lord unchain my hands
Let me sing inside the crowded trams
Let me dance among the traffic jams
We're going to sleep
On the St Kilda sands

Yes

that works.

aussie crowds are crap at singing. so we need one where it doesn't matter.

ps. may want to skip to 1:55 if you just want the song.

Across the Bourke St footbridge,
From St.Kilda beach I came,
I marvelled at the Docklands
As I queued to see the game

My mind drifted to Moorabbin
To the windsock and the stand
To the Animal Enclosure
where this boy became a man

And I can still hear all the stories
That me father used to roll
How he waited at the Junction
How he nearly sold his soul

And though I wasn't born in 66
I could feel his sweet refrain
Now I'm waiting at the Docklands
Cause I've got to ease this pain

I did my time at Artic Park
I took the crushing hits
I lined up for my tickets
I'm still owed my 66

The MCG still gives me nightmares
Zip from 3 gives me the s***s
Bloody Adelaide and Collingwood
And those Sleepy Hollow twits

Yes Im waiting at the Docklands boys
So please come marching in
Im waiting at the Docklands lads
I've paid for all my sins

And I'll never give up hoping
Though I may say your name in Vain
Cause Im still waiting at the Docklands
And I've got to ease this pain

Yes Im waiting at the Docklands boys
So please come marching in
Im waiting at the Docklands lads
And my patience wears me thin

But when I finally here that number
I'll be playing in the band
And I'll catch a cab to Linton St
Just to hold the cup in hand

No longer waiting at the Docklands
I could die a happy man
In my old St.Kilda jumper
With a record in my hand.

Not a pregame song but I thought I'd share my poem. Hope you like it.

Very nice poem CQ Saint. Speaks of the angst of following the Saints.

The original first line to the pre-game song effort was "St Kilda, you've broken our hearts but we love you". haha

Its funny what comes to mind when you are trying to get to sleep after a long day of performance appraisals and quarterly reports.
I lay in bed last night looking to clear my mind and it really did exhaust me in the end.
It was going to be an attempt at a pregame song but I feel at the moment we have other unfinished business to contend with. I'll write one when we win our next, hopefully this time next year 😁😇

Beck had a song in 9994...

Truck Drivin’ Neighbors downstairs....

For Collingwood games only.....

Acid casualty with a repossessed car
Vietnam vet playing air guitar
It's just the shitkickin' speedtakin'
Truckdrivin' neighbors downstairs
Yeah

Whiskey-stained bucktoothed backwoods creep
Grizzly bear motherfucker never goes to sleep
It's just the shitkickin' speedtakin'
Truckdrivin' neighbors downstairs
Yeah

Belly-floppin' naked in a pool of yellow sweat
Screaming jack-ass with a wet cigarette
It's just the shitkickin' speedtakin'
Truckdrivin' neighbors downstairs
Oh my goodness

A more matured and successful Beck (like 3 years later...aged twenty something) said we shouldn’t exploit the song...so i do...but just for Collingwood fans...

Nothin’ wrong with trucks...shot guns, peanut butter etc..btw....

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Beautiful song.

Not sure if it would be a good choice for a pre game anthem but it is a hell of a song & one of my very favourite Paul Kelly tunes

Great song, catchy tune but pity Kelly can't sing.

If this is a serious thread for a pre game song I’d say the following from very successful pre-game anthems.

- Needs to be relatively slow song
- Have meaning on different level and be adaptable to your clubs position
- Well known so every body sings the chorus
- Uplifting
- Timeless and appealing from young to old

For me one song stands out:

Imagine - John Lennon

Can you imagine 30,000 Saints fans in chorus singing this pre game. Could also be the 2021 season theme: Imagine

I find Imagine as a sad song...a gentle lament, rather than uplifting....I don’t know what Ringo was thinking when he wrote it, buts still a good song.

Love the song jaxons, but you’re too late with suggesting this one, already taken. You obviously haven’t been to Optus Stadium in Perth???

“We Will Rock You”, is played before the beginning of the AFL match, both for Eagles and Dockers matches. Heaven forbid we copy anything that’s done in the West, spare us ex-pat Vics that. You should know that being a St Kilda supporter is enough of a cross to bare, without parochial West Aussies sniggering at us for using this tune as a crowd warm up, when they have being doing it for a few years.

If they made that awful drippy song our pre-game song I'd turn in my membership. There's only so much a Saints fan can take.
