Played on the other wing?! This ain’t the 80s anymore!

He had no influence again today, like a lot of this season. Was the worst ‘mid’ for us today (except for sub Byrnes). Might find it hard to get a spot in the 22 with our full list next year, no surprise he’s looking elsewhere for a gig.
I’m assuming Ross?
If so yep agreed

I’m sure you understand different roles in footy?!

How did you see Ben Long’s game today?
Long had 6 effective disposals, Ross had 9…

That’s not light years apart.

I thought Seb did some nice things & wasn't a star but was ok in a good team effort IMO

Ross didn’t spend much time in the midfield

I’ve answered a lot of your questions as of late BM

Here’s one for you, who had the better game, Ross or Bytel?

Or on a broader level, what’s the standard you expect from Ross moving forward

The only blokes who touched it less than him today were key backs and small forwards (and Hunter of course).

Why is it so hard to admit he was poor today?

If that was Dunstan’s game what would you be saying? Time for a run in the 2s?

I believe I’ve already stated that, read the thread?!

Dunstan plays in the midfield

So 14 would be unacceptable

14 as a wingman is pretty quiet also, didn’t seem to be in the play much?
Who were Freo’s wingers, how did they go??

Watch the replay. I thought he played OK.

7 players had less possessions and I didn't think we had more than 1 or 2 poor players,

Posters on here that call themselves supporters and who regularly put s*** on players need to take a good hard look at themselves. FFS.

I’m a big Seb Ross supporter, as you know Saynta

Thought he was very quiet today, not a great game from him.

Don’t really know who their Wingers were to see if he was beaten

saynta, your defence of Ross as always is admirable but when you make a comment such as "impressed with Seb", as you did in the votes. That's as blinkered as all the others who you bemoan when they criticise Ross.

What impressed you about Seb's game today?

For the record, I don't, as a rule, diss Saints players. Dislike those that constantly do.

Go and watch it again. His kicks and handballs, or most of them, found a team mate. He played a fair game in an outstanding team effort. You should ask Ratts what he thought of it. I would say he was satisfied with the effort.
For someone to say he looked disinterested is pure nonsense, but expected from that poster.

And frankly mate I don't give a tupenny f*** what anyone else thinks. There is plenty of rubbish printed about Seb, and your post just adds to it. Me blinkered? That's a f****** laugh.Saying I bemoan others when I am merely pointing out their ignorance and lack of footy knowledge is f****** insulting.

I don't come on hoping to win a popularity contest.

Fair enough saynta.

Can I say though that by all the f***'s and "rolly eyes", you appear to care a great deal about what people think.

“Go and watch it again. His kicks and handballs, or most of them, found a team mate.”

He had 9 effective possessions…

Seb is the poster child for the mediocrity St Kilda needs to no longer accept.

If he stays he’ll be handy depth, but he is now behind so many other players that are clearly better or have more potential.

Amongst the non-midfielders that got more touches today are:
Cooper
Kent
Membrey
Higgins

The issue isn’t being a fan of player X or bring a big supporter…
It’s when you regularly provide commentary on performance and let your preferences influence the feedback

I never ever here you criticise a performance or even an effort… got fourteen touches today and no influence with your feedback being ‘he was a bit quiet’.

If that had been Bytel or Hill, you’d be scathing in your assessment

Same as the Carlton game - did poorly and threw out the ‘sacrificed his game mantra’ even though you didn’t know it

Not Dunstan it seems

Bytel was played in the middle for experience today

Had 17 and kicked 2, so an ok day. Played a lot on Mundy, obviously to learn.

I think Bytel is showing promise.

He’s had a few decent games like today and a few where he’s gone 7 tackles or so.

Can certainly compete but not so established that he can’t be well beaten or taught a lesson. Don’t mind for him to come in and out of the team as form warrants but would have liked to see him play another 3-4 games this season.

At the moment, he’s prone to dish the ball off in a contest which is great but to go the next level, he needs a bit more agency with his own disposal. Don’t want to see too many more games where handballs outnumber kicks. Today for example was a step in the right direction.

Needs to keep developing that ability to spread too.

Still, took some steps forward this year.

I wonder how fit he really is.

Sadly, Seb played like a guy who isn't planning to be at the Saints in 2022. Just saying.

Cooper Sharman looks a real.prospect

His progression is remarkable given he's yet to have an AFL pre season.

Needs to bulk up body mass to give him a physical edge.

Great mark and kick. He makes me feel not so bad losing Nick Hind.

We got lucky with Sharman.

Very true DC. I hope he gets stronger but I don't particularly want him to bulk up. I hope his pre season builds his tank so he can run up and back all day.

He's a natural when it comes to marking, his timing & judgement are perfect. His hands are strong, one grab most of the time. He'll never body a backman but will outrun them and out think them.

He's a beauty! King, Membrey & Sharman complemented by a mix of Higgins, Butler, Billings & Gresham with the likes of Marshall or Ryder (Heath) resting forward at times. It's a pretty exciting forward line.

To be fair to Ross the play seemed to be on the other wing the majority of the day. The commentators made mention at one stage also. May have been the wind.

I think Bytel will be a genuine quality mid. He's still only 21 and has played just 15 games. Needs an extended run at it. Lots of development left in him. In a couple of years could be a key part of an excellent midfield.
