Yep, I agree Stinger. This team is far superior to any recent saints teams. They are actually unbeatable and ruthless in their ability to wallop teams at present. It looks more like the team from 1971 and the mid-sixties rather than anything from recent history. In 1971 - it was just 2 teams that were so far ahead of the rest - us and the Hawks. In 2009 - it is us and the Cats.

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Actually, I'd prefer them to be more reminiscent of the 1966 team, at least in one respect.

We were sort of unbeatable, and should have won the GF as we were well ahead at 3/4 time. But Hawthorn beat us 4 times that season (including one game where I think Hudson kicked 12), and Richmond beat us at Moorabbin after we were 30 points in front at 3/4 time!!

Certainly a team of stars though. It was a golden era from that point of view.

We won our first eight in '66. In whirlwind fashion too. A percentage of around 170-180 after eight rounds. Let's emulate that and see where we go. We also finished second to another team that seemed better than thus all year.

Good signs, guys. Good signs!

My memory of that team is that we were tough and tall, but then again anyone seems tall to a nine year old.

Is that the sort of similarity to which you were referring?

I agree also. it really does have a 1971 feel about this season (so far) with two sides dominating.

71 grander still stands out as easily the toughest game of footy I"ve ever seen.

Nah looks more like the 1913 team for mine!

FAIR DINKUM, what an absolute load of codswallop!

Call me crazy, but personally I believe this team has a real 2009 look about it!

I doubt it. I remember Hawthorn having our measure 4 times that year. We were definately the 2nd best team and being 3 goals up at 3/4 time in the GF we should have won it

Another opportunity awaits!

71?

We only won three out of our first six and finished three games behind Hawthorn. Hardly unbeatable!

Hawthorn had beaten us three times before the Grand Final including a 10 goal win at Moorabbin.

Other than the first three quarters of the Grand Final, Hawthorn was the unbeatable side that year.

Barassi picked us to win the GF because he didn't believe Hawthorn could beat us 4 times!

But we did only lose it by 7 points, and came from way behind to almost win the 2nd semi.

How about - in other words, no they weren't the best side that year

me, too. i've never seen the replay of that last quarter ... too painful ... but from memory that was late in the game and maybe even after hawthorn had hit the front.

Interestingly, 1971 was the last time St.Kilda recorded a third win in a row vs Essendon.

This week presents that opportunity once again...

the saints this year don't remind me af any other saints team I've ever seen.
this year we have no gimmick or sneaky little game plan that might be worked out by coaches. simply our intencity cant be macthed for 4quarters and even if it is we still have amazing skill and kick goals.
we also have experienced guys who should be able to do ti all year long. ia Also cant see any grumblings off field which could ruin it.
