Luke Miles

Post: # 731104Post kingy0701 »

Saw Luke listed as an emergency for last weeks game and racked up about 30 touches for Sandy on the weekend.

I didn't realize that he was eligible for senior selection, I'm assuming he has been elevated??

Anyway, from some of the games I have seen he has been rather impressive, seems to be a top bloke as well. Will he be a chance for a senior game this season?

He's coming along in the 2s and will be promoted at the end of season (unless he falls away dramatically).

I don't think he's anywhere remotely near senior footy level at the moment IMO the pace of the game will find him out greatly.

Will be interesting to see exactly in what position they groom him. In the 2s he's a bit of a utility; midfielder back man that can grab the ball.

I haven't seen a lot of him but he tends to get described a bit like a Charlie Gardiner except with better goal kicking, faster closing speed and at this stage pbly not as good a mark

I just can't see him getting a game in the backline at this point, his only chance is to hope for injuries or to try and develop himself into a third tall forward.

Too small for the role he plays IMO......put it in perspective......he plays the S.Fisher/S.Gilbert role in the VFL - utility defender.....

He weighs 78kg.......6 less than Ball....and looks skinny

I've been impressed with his progress but I'm surprised that he's been elevated. Usually you only go to the effort of promoting a player if he's definitely going to play and I would have thought we have a couple of players in front of him in the pecking order.

Still, it's great to finally have some depth at the footy club.

You can be 100% sure he was. He was the only emergency sent to Adelaide on Friday. If we hadn't elevated him before he left, we surely would have been in a bit of trouble if someone had broken down in the warmup!!

In general, I agree with BigMart's comments. From what I have seen of him, he is about the same height as Leigh Fisher, but much skinnier and with less muscular development. He is faster than most players, but not as skilled as one would like. I would see him as perhaps having the potential to become a Gram-type player, but to me he doesn't look anywhere near as promising as Gram did at his age (and, let's face it, even now Gram is a good player, but not a superstar).

I don't get why he is being put ahead of Leigh Fisher, X, Begley, Eljay, Steven, Armo and others in the queue. But, then, I don't really get what is going on with the selection of Eddy either. As I said on another thread, I hope Lyon isn't getting ahead of himself. CJ and Geary are going great guns, but this doesn't mean that we need to fill our entire 22 with ugly ducklings who were not picked up in the regular draft.

I have liked what I have seen of Miles.

Though IF he was elevated that does surprise..

Though IF he was...who knows..maybe the coaches believe that now is the time to give him a mental boost.

Agreed.

But a player like him is the last thing we need right now IMHO...

I recall an eye catching performance in defence in a pre-season match last season.

Then injury got in the way.
