Should we oppose the change to Etihad?

Post: # 705876Post kosifantutti23 »

At Colonial stadium 2000 - 2002 St.Kilda had a terrible record.

8 wins and 2 draws from 38 games for a winning percentage of 23.68%

At Telstra Dome we had 55 wins and 1 draw from 74 games. A winning percentage of 75%.

So we were more than three times more likely to win at Telstra Dome than we were at Colonial Stadium.

How can we just accept this change of name when it could have a huge impact on our winning percentage at our home ground?

Can someone in Melbourne start a petition and get this put right?

Average crowd at Colonial 28,271

Average crowd at Telstra 38,813

The numbers don't lie.

LOL...its OK KFT...I get your sense of humour lol

I tell you what I WILL get a petition about tho..... the bloody money-hungry AFL/TD/ES/whoever now making people pay for reserved seats on Level 2 AND 1 for the preseason cup.

3 years ago you could sit anywhere in the ground for the price of admission except Medallion Club......then it was a chunk of Level 2 reserved..then the whole of Level 2..and now Level 1 as well!!!

My bank balance is actually quite happy we got booted out in the 1st round this year.

Our ladder position has a lot to do with winning less than a quarter of games at our home ground compared to winning 3/4 of our games at our home ground.

When you have done the statistical analysis on our games away from Docklands in the same period, then you can think about claiming the intellectual high ground.

Which is exactly why we should only ever refer to grounds by their GENERIC name.

So it's DOCKLANDS

It is NOT
Colonial
or Telstradome
or Jihad
or whatever

egWho has kicked the most goals at Telstradome?
What does that mean?
Does it mean on that ground, or just on that ground whilst it was sponsored by that brand?

Call it Docklands

And Princes Park is Princes Park not the string of ridiculous sponsor names it has had.

I thought it had been agreed that the ground was to known as Jihad Stadium.
Jihad Stadium with death to those who do not worship the saintly servants of the one true god.

Allahu Akbar :!: = god is greatest
SAINTSU AKBAR :!: = Saints are greatest

You're missing the point kft23 - when people turn up to watch the saints we tend to win more. That's the clear message from the data you present.

Our performances in those lean Colonial years can't be attributed to the name of the stadium. That's silly. It's clearly that our showponies in black white and red like a crowd to perform in front of. that's why we won so many games in the telstra years.

What we need to do is assess the crowd just before they run out and get a few of these guys to fill the seats.

edit: any resemblances to Moorabbin Wing regulars purely incidental. Or are they?

In that case we should be doing really well in finals

Unless we play teams who are even BIGGER showponies.

You have much to learn grasshopper.
