OBSERVATION, PREPARATION, ACTION, ESCAPE !!
If we ALL applied those principles to our driving EVERY time we are behind the wheel, the roads would be a much safer place !!
Given that this thread has morphed into a Saints Driving Instruction thread -
I tend to leave extra space between the car in front of me and myself, for the same reason as someone else posted earlier (I'm a defensive driver) and invariably drivers in other lanes view this space as an opportunity to 'lanehop', thus defeating what I was aiming to do.
I've never understood the need to 'lane hop' on highways/freeways when everyone seems to be travelling at or around the maximum speed limit?
Does it really make a difference if you arrive 30 seconds earlier after a 20km drive?

person behind me at an intersection on a slight rise this morning would have done well to remember that
especially when on a rise I leave space to move forward to keep momentum etc
person behind me hadn't done that and I rolled ever so lightly back wards to which I got bipped- But if he had left space......
it was more the word I left out Eastern. .

I'll go in defence of SUV's 4WD's whatever you want to call them.
I've got one, and it was the best car purchase a family of four (with little kids) can make IMO.
Tonnes of room in the boot to store stuff (ie. the mountains of crappola littlies need!), and the height inside the cabin makes for a much more comfortable and non claustrophic feeling experience on long drive.
Who cares if it hasn't gone off-road?
I reckon those without high wheel base cars are just jealous
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
