Steven Lawrence to coach CGS in 09

Post: # 689815Post sunsaint »

Lawrence has been appointed head coach to Caulfield Footy Club for '09,
he joins other ex Sainter, Dean Anderson and replaces ex coach Gary Colling. A whole lot of StKilda love goin on down there.

from the website:
It is with great pleasure that we (CGS) announce that Steven Lawrence has been appointed our senior coach for season 2009.
After playing 120 AFL games with Brisbane & St.Kilda, Steven then played in the VFL, captaining Williamstown & later playing for Port Melbourne.
He has most recently played with Old Scotch in A section last season, so he comes with a wealth of kmowledge from all levels of football.
Pre-season training will commence at CGS, Glen Eira Rd next week, with more details to follow.

includes a photo of a trim, fit looking Lawrence, good to see him still involved with footy.

Good luck to him. He's one of those players who had some mongrel in him. Too bad he couldn't control his drinking.

I recall him and Heuskes annoying us when he played for the Bears.

Had a chat to him when he was at Pt Melb. He was employed to measure shower screens at the time. Nice enough bloke. For sentimental reasons, I was rapt when he came to St Kilda.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

No doubt Fraser Gehrig will put in an appearance at some time.
Where one goes, the other one is not far behind.

As a Lions player, I recall him absolutely flattening Winmar in front of us at Waverley one day which had me calling him every name under the sun thus creating a dislike for him there after.
until...
Fast forward a few years, he is wearing our colours - All is forgiven.

The Caulfield boys won't want to leave their bags lying around in the rooms unzipped.

That was a great and legal bump...Winmar had terrific vision but never saw that coming.

Lawrence shirt-fronting Winmar in that match was pay-back for Winmar cleaning him up at training when he did a preseason with the Saints prior to being drafted by the Lions We could have had him under the father and son rule.

His dad was one of my heroes.
(Till he sat on the bench as a 40+ year old in that QFL reserves game to allow his son to play for Brisbane under some bogus Father-Son rule clause designed to prop up interstate clubs, like the bogus one-off clause that took Ashley McIntosh away from us).

No doubt Matthew Capu Oh No will be an attendee at post match celebrations. :D
