Geary and Eddy are still young mate, even though they've been playing their whole life doesn't mean they've reached their full potential, for crying out loud have a look at Max Hudghton, Brendon Goddard etc. People wanted those guys dropped even when they were 20...

As for Walsh I believe that we MUST sign him also, I just don't agree with your comments on Geary and Eddy...

The way I see it is that 90% of the football community seem to think this Irish experiment is a very good idea, they're all thinking the same thing so they must be on to something... It would be wreckless of us to not sign the BEST young talent if we had the chance, also if we nominate him he will be our LAST rookie pick which makes it much more significant, just like it will be this year with Blake McGrath...

IMO Rookies are prospective picks and not necessarily future players ...

I see no reason at all in NOT selecting Walsh, to me Walsh is a good prospect with both height and stamina...

I can't see any reason not to sign him, if the Club sees potential in him.

He is 19 years old (I think)

They are in the best position to decide

I don't know if there is a nomination closure for the rookie draft.

I feel that rookies don't have to nominate (I maybe wrong)

Not exactly. He was a second year rookie recovering from a knee reconstruction. He wasn't added to the main list.

Setanta grew up playing football and hurling.

Carlton, even though they are a joke of a club, assessed him as having the most potential to play AFL

I am not saying Jones 98, Eddy 128 and Geary 147 will not be "serviceable players".
They are not there yet and they will never take a game by the scruff of the neck like some top ten draft picks can.
They are probably better than Armitage 9 and Howard 27.
Someone completely overestimated the quality of football in Queensland that year.
Sadly injury may just have ended Allen 59 without getting a real chance.
Van Rheenen 114 and Wall 140 are already delisted.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Yes, but Setanta O'hAilpin, focused on hurling in his later years in Ireland.

IMO a player like Walsh has more upside than him and has only focased on football.

Anyway, he is 19 and at 6' 6" with mobility and able to take a grab and kick a ball, albeit a different shape, and if the Club sees that he has potential to adapt I am all for it.

I would be very happy if Walsh or any other Irishman became a regular at the Saints. I'm still disappointed that they got rid of Cathal Corr. But there are a lot of boxes to be ticked before we can seriously consider recruiting someone like Walsh.

I trust the club to make the right decision. My main concern is that Ricky Nixon is involved who is no doubt looking after the interests of Ricky Nixon.

Attard delisted - enough said

At the end of 2006
80 players were taken with 89 picks available in the main draft
9 players were taken with 9 picks available in the 2007 (sic*) pre-season draft.
62 players taken with 64 picks available in the 2007 (sic*) rookie draft.
(*Don't blame me that dimwit Demetriou does not know what year it is).

Eddy taken at 39 and Geary taken at 58 in the rookie draft.
That places Eddy 128 and Geary 147 equivalent in the main draft.

In 2008
Eddy had 154 possessions in 13 games average of 11.8 possessions
Geary had 114 possesions in 10 games average of 11.4 possessions

Did I hear someone cry elite midfielders.
Only 15 to 20 posssesions short.
More like fringe players.

Those are the statistics of players who lose you matches not win matches.
Did you see the way Eddy took the 2008 preliminary final apart with 9 possesions and Geary wow! did not even get a start.

These are the sort of players you have to play to fill the 22 player requirement, not the players you play to win a grand final.
They don't help the team win.
At best, if they play well, they don't lose the team the match.

Did I hear someone say potential upside.
These kids have been playing aussie rules all their lives.
Limited upside.
The best Irish kid has far more potential upside because he has yet to play the aussie game.
More like a Nick Riewoldt or Jack Watts at age 14. :) :) :)

mate i think rooey and watts had an understanding of the game at age 14.

and also 11 or so possessions isnt bad for a debut season.

dale thomas doesn't average that much and he was the freakin #2 pick!!

Looks like our confusion is not really cleared up even now!
It looks to me that the best we can do is tie him up for next year, to be rookied.
