Steven King - sensational in the ruck tonight

Post: # 642959Post Legendary »

27 hitouts and 3 tackles, as well as a few contested possessions from King tonight.

Gave us first use, and competed and provided a really strong body in the ruck.

More importantly, kept his opponent Fraser quiet.

Nice for us to have a good performance from a ruckman in a final. It's been a while!

Had some very good hitouts but certainly did not keep Fraser quiet. Fraser was easily one of Collingwood's best and had no one near him all day.

Fraser is a cheat......one on one King beat him.....in contested situations King was strong....

Fraser was like Dean Cox.......picking up cheap touches by cheating....running wide and fwd of the ball......how many of his entries into F50 were effective

Very few of the forward 50 entries by the Pies in general were at all effective.

The Pies actually made a lot more entries tonight than us on the stats sheet. But many of them were simply long bombs which resulted by uncontested marks by our blokes.

It just goes to show, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics....

King was great again tonight. His experience and big body are bloody invaluable. Really noticed him not only giving first use at times, but also creating a contest where a shorter and smaller bodied player wouldn't have.
The benefit of picking him up is really starting to show. In my top 5 tonight.

King was immense. Proof that you can drop-in ruckmen from other clubs.

He keeps us competitive a lot of the time in the midfield, IMO.

Thought a lot of Fraser's kicks were cheapish ones, and his stats were a bit inflated.

In the packs and contests, King had the better of him.

Look, King will win the hit-outs most weeks and is a class tap-ruckman.
But he is still found wanting against mobile possesion-winning ruckman, and doesn't do much arounjd the ground. Having said that he is the best option and I'm happy to have him in the team with Kosi.
If Kosi plays next week, they will put Campbell and Taylor under the pump.

King and Hayes have really developed a strong combination in the latter part of this season.

They've been fantastic together.

What a pickup. Reads the play and the bounce of the ball beautifully. Watch him stay down while the other ruckmen goes up and he'll win the tap 80% of the time.

King was really good tonight and while he struggled a bit to keep up with Fraser he definately took the honours in the ruckwork. Next week, he'll be important to gives a chance to compete with their midfield and will be better matched up against their ruckmen who aren't as mobile.

jeez king's been good, hes a welcome change to the 2nd-rate ruckmen we used last year.

King + Hayes + Ball would win us so many crucial clearances.

I wish we had a ruckman who would cheat like that. I suppose there is a rule that all ruckmen must play at least 30m behind the ball at all times?

Wouldnt trade King for Cox any day of the week...

Fair dinkum, Cox is the most damaging ruckman to ever play the game. He does it all. Fraser is pretty good around the ground too. Hed get a run in our team every week without a doubt.
