I think there is some confusion here.
It was Barry Breen who kicked the goal against North to tie the scores in 1980.
And I don't think there was any debate about it.

"TS Rules" and "Cowboy" - I think you are getting confused with the infamous "Miracle at Arden St" where we won after the siren in 1978 in extremely controversial circumstances ?
That was the goal kicked by Robbie Elliot.
I would have to nominate this goal as probably the most amazing or flukiest goal in the history of our club.
Kicked after the siren.
To win the game.
From about 60m out.
Into a breeze.
North people had already jumped the fence to celebrate the win.
Robbie (or "Glenn's Brother" to give him his proper name) was never going to make the distance.
Sure enough the ball landed short.
And according to the goal ump miraculously eluded North defenders and North supporters to go through for a goal.
North fans at that end have a different view and claim they were robbed !
I was there but was too far away to see how it happened.
Have never seen any footage of it.
Does anyone know if it was ever captured on film ?
Would love to see it.

probably not !
I can remember listening to the game with my brother on his trannie at the time and we were both jumping up and down with excitment at the result. Back then the footy replay only showed one or two main games and sometimes highlights of a couple more but not all games were covered. I carn't remember seeing highlights on either the sat. nite or the next morning on world of sport. However they may exist, Russel homesby would probably know !

Cowboy - can I presume I am right ?

If so, here is the next question......

In the history of this club there have been 25 instances of a player bagging 10 (or more) goals.
Incredibly Plugger is responsible for 15 of those bags.

- The most number against any individual clubs is 5 against the Swans (Plugger 4 and Jacko 1)
- Brisbane is next with 4 (Plugger 3 and S. Milne 1)
Then on 3 is
- Adelaide 3 (all Plugger)
- Collingwood 3 (Billy Mohr 2 and Alan Davis 1)

Name the club(s) that no StKilda player has ever kicked a bag of 10 (or more) against ?

No doubt! I was at both games and didn't double check the timing. I just remembered the goal and the mess afterwards as I ran onto the ground.

Apologies to all - I also have a feeling I asked the same question about 100 pages ago - thankfully the search function isn't working!

Saint66au,
The "new boys" Freo and Port are correct.
Freo Best is 5 (Fraser in 2003) (Though I recall Stewie kicked a big bag against them in a pre-season game).
Port Best is 6 (some prick called B Hall in 2000)

But
Geelong is incorrect.
The legendary Dave McNamara bagged 10 against them in 1922 at the Junction Ovel.

And
as well as the new boys (Port and Freo) there is at least one other club !
????????

I would like to think that in 110 years, someone has kicked 10 against Essendon but I can't think of one of the top of my head.

Getting closer.

Yes Corr Blimey our best effort against Essendon is 9.
Done by Billy Mohr in 32 and Plugger in 87.

So that's Freo, Port, Essendon and ...... ?

I'm looking for 2 more clubs

Im sure Plugger has kicked some bags against Hawthorn. I can remember he and Dunstall having shoot-offs every time we played them.

Yes you are right about Hawthorn.

But Richmond
it was only this year that Frase became our first 10 goaler against them in that fantastic game at the G.

Others prev got Freo, Port and Essendon.

So that makes 4 teams, but the answer is 5 teams.
So I am still looking for one more team ????????

You got it - University is the 5th club.

So the full answer is 5 teams
Ess Best is 9 (Billy Mohr in 32 and Plugger in 87)
Freo Best is 5 (Fraser in 2003)
Haw Best is 9 (Billy Mohr in 32, Verdun Howell in 65, and Plugger in 88)
Port Best is 6 (some prick called B Hall in 2000)
Univ Best is ? There is no comprehensive goalkicking stats on games from this era but I doubt if we ever had a big bag of goals against University as our top 4 team scores against them were only 128, 102, 101 and 101

Good Q Enrico_Misso

Re University - my stats tell me Dave McNamara got 7 in 1914...

I better ask an easy one as I might not be around too much for the next few days...

In the 2005 shellacking of Melbourne (R18), who kicked 5 goals for the Saints?

NDS
I think he kicked all of them (or was it 4) in the first quarter ?
That was the match when Melb came out and spent the entire first quarter trying to rough up Roo whilst we built up a match winning lead.

Reckon it was the most intense, switched on quarter of footy we played for the year. Melbourne decided to "do a Brisbane" and get all intimidating..Hamill just laughed in thie faces. Umpires gave us a couple of frees to show Melbourne who WAS in charge and by quarter time we had 8 goals, Dal had rediscovered his kicking mojo after having 1-11 up til that game I think and it was game over. Awesome stuff, I remember feeling knackered at 1/4 time from just watching it

And I think one of those NDS goals was the one where there was a loose ball about 20 metres out, there was 3 Melb defenders around him, NDS swooped on it and somehow slotted it through opposition arms and legs.
Magic !

Anyway, next question ....

Name the most humiliated opposition player ever at Moorabbin ?

It was back in the early 90s.
This poor guy was named at fullback against a rampant Plugger at the peak of his form.
The goals flowed at a great rate.
When the ball wasn't speared in to Plugger's chest, he just brushed this guy aside to mark, or when delivery was wide or short Plugger just scooped it up in one-touch off the deck and banged it through.
As best I remember it, it was still before half time and the great man had already kicked nine and this guy was looking for somewhere to hide.
Plugger then marked yet again on the point post in the "Huggins" pocket.
And played on to slam the ball through the goal and out over the hotdog stands.
Unfortunately the umpire had called time on so the shot was disallowed.
(He subsequently missed the set shot).
There was then a lengthy break in play whilst we waited for someone to kick the ball back from the carpark.
However the opposition runner had already been sent out to drag this unfortunate fullback.
The poor guy had to walk the full length of the Social Club and then brave The Animal pit and reserved seating section on route to the bench.
During this long and lonely walk the generous and festive Moorabbin crowd were able to give him their "undivided attention".

Name the player ?

You got it Cowboy !

It was Danny Hughes (ex Melbourne) playing for Adelaide 1991 Round 7 at Moorabbin.
We won by a new record margin of 131 points (162 to 31).
Plugger kicked 12.6 (with that lazy 9 to half time).
Russell Morris probably outshone him with 18 marks.
We kicked 7 goals in each of the first 2 quarters to be 14.7 91 to 1.7 13 at half time.
And the other notable statistic was that the ex-Port Adelaide "goal kicking machine" Scott Hodges was held completely STATLESS over 4 quarters.
I remember some ill-advised guy standing in the Animal pit with a Crows beanie - boy did he cop it.
Seldom has any game provided so many laughs.
