Re: Higgins Alir incident
Crouch gets one week for nearly breaking a player's neck
Butters gets off for running past the ball and bumping a player front on in the head. Deemed to be trying to pick up the ball by Christian. Yeah, right.
Charlie Cameron's suspension was thrown out because someone said he was a good bloke. Wow, that's great work from the tribunal.
Scott Pendlebury also gets off for being a good bloke
Patrick Dangerfield gets slung face first into the turf in a much more dangerous tackles but strangely his opponent received no suspension in the same round that Higgins gets three weeks
And on and on it goes, ad nauseam
Michael Christian is an incompetent moron at best. Who you are and who you play for shouldn't matter. But it does to Christian, it seems

Re: Higgins Alir incident
There's been inconsistency for over a decade. The MRO and MRP before that, and the tribunal have all confused footy fans and players alike.
The AFL has failed to properly adjudicate on head high collisions, or anything to do with players getting concussion.
They continue to penalise based on medical reports and injuries sustained instead of trying to change the behaviour and the actions of players.
Set some rules. Give players clear instructions. Make it simple and predictable instead of a rigged lottery.
St Kilda have to be made examples of while other teams get off or get 1 week for similar incidents. Jack Higgins is somehow guilty of a brutal action where he cops not 1...not 2 ...but 3 fkn weeks!!
The AFL and MC are c***s

Re: Higgins Alir incident
Any process where the same action can receive two vastly different penalties because the outcome is different- is obviously flawed!
That and trial by media
And yes - having Christian alone deciding all penalties is also ridiculous
It should be an expert panel

Re: Higgins Alir incident
It used to be. Before the MRO, it was the MRP.
They decided, in their infinite wisdom, that too many voices were producing wildly inconsistent results.
It's clear now that the only voice that is producing wildly inconsistent results is that of Michael Christian.
Maybe go back to the MRP without him on the panel.
The first thing they really need to to is allow precedence to be used. They have a published grading system that they use that equates incidents. Then they don't allow previous incidents that were classified differently to be used. How can you have consistency when you can't challenge based on that. It's not a model for continuous improvement - but, really, when have the AFL ever strived for that?
They tweak every rule there is and then act like stunned mullets when something "unforseen" happens. They are the masters of the unintended consequence!
They have the best football product on the planet, but they continually look for ways to wreck it. The game, however, survives because of the skills of the players and coaches.

I think a lot of these problems could be foreseen which means they have been negligent. They don’t seem to think things through or that’s my perception anyway.
That’s why I reckon ‘unindented consequences’ can sometimes be used as a cop out.

Re: Higgins Alir incident
The AFL have been pressured by medical bodies, legal bodies and the public generally about addressing concussion, and rightly so. It's more than likely that if a player is concussed due to a tackle of any sort from an opposition player, and fails concussion protocols, then it would be hard to talk your way out of getting suspended as that tackler.
Higgins should have been a bit more aware of what he was doing if anything, though the initial arm pull was OK, he didn't need to keep dragging Aliir down with force.
About time Lyon got in the ear of the Saints list and laid the law down about illegal contact, as most of our suspensions were avoidable and were just plain sloppy, undisciplined actions.

Agree on the Webster, King, and Windhager incidents. Webster's action was intentional and I was shocked it wasn't graded as such.spert wrote: ↑Thu 02 May 2024 11:30am The AFL have been pressured by medical bodies, legal bodies and the public generally about addressing concussion, and rightly so. King and Windy were poor techniques.
Higgins was dead-set stiff.

Into Hamish Brayshaw’s open letter to the AFL, reported on the ABC Website today, insert the name Jack Higgins
Simply, with the AFL it is a matter of which Club you play for, the “big” Clubs which provide the AFL’s revenue by attendances and television audience and those they rely on to present that there is a National competition receiving most favourable treatment across the “competition”
The AFL is compromised and corrupt at its core in my opinion

There's no issue here.
The AFL suspends anyone if their tackle causes a concussion.
Don't they?

Re: Higgins Alir incident
Just my opinion:
Webster - penalty was appropriate for the action
Windhager - deserved a week
King - nothing in it, no penalty
Higgins - How does Allir trying to kick the ball and put himself off balance not affect the penalty for Higgins.
Absolute joke, there was no sling and I believe no intent. Allir contributed significantly to the injury.
The worst three this season (outside of Saints) IMO were Rozee who was worse than Winhager, the player who got a week when he tried to spoil Fyfe, and the Crouch hit which had spinal injury written all over it.

Re: Higgins Alir incident
Liberatore should get at least a week for his ugly and dangerous sling tackle on Will Day. If there is a concussion involved it’s got to be three weeks or St Kilda has been ripped off … again.

Re: Higgins Alir incident
As much as I hate to support the “protect the head at all costs” push by the AFL. Libba’s tackle has to be minimum 3 weeks. Anything Less would be objective evidence that there is bias against st Kilda at the tribunal (as much as it sounds nuffy to declare that).
