Coming back

Post: # 2054783Post B.M »

In a few weeks we get a lot of players back!

Hopefully not too many more get injured in the meantime?!

Clark - 1 week
King - 1 week
Henry - 2 weeks
Webster - 1 week
Wood - 1 week
Paton - 2 weeks
Crouch - 2 weeks
Hayes - playing VFL
Dow - playing VFL

That’s 9 players in the next 1-3 weeks returning

It's been a long wait. Makes you think what could have been in those close ones we lost. I'd happily have 7 of those guys back in the team tonight if they were match fit and available.

Clark- injury-prone (not his fault)
King- not really as dominant as he should be
Henry- firecracker, cannot wait
Webster- much prefer Stocker for precision and Liam is just as desperate and competitive
Wood- a bit too old for continual crashnbash style, needs managing
Paton- can he regain his form?
Crouch- slow like Ross, but at least has a go, great support for young Marcus W
Hayes- nope, see Clark
Dow- unknown

WTF? He’s 28 and played 6 games in total. He’s not in our top 20 most important players

Looking at the Collingwood game we won- Henry would be the most important return as we lack that spark in the forward half of the ground. King is good for a couple of goals and Webster is solid and experienced. I get the feeling Clark may be cooked, just too many injuries and will need to break into an already slow team. Wood is class and Crouch is a good extractor. Dow I expect to be important in the midfield and Paton may spend a fair bit of time at Sandy getting back some old form. Hayes has only put his hand up in one game a few years ago, and played some serviceable games otherwise but has had a lot of injuries and is getting older and I can't see him featuring much in the future.

Hayes could be our 25th ‘best’ player

But structure wise he’s critical

He’s a better forward than Caminiti and a far better ruckman than Owens or Caminiti

Caminiti has been woeful this season and was only given a pass for last year because of where he came from and we had no King or Membrey
But the reality is - he averaged a goal per game (at best) as the deepest forward. Ordinary really.

I’d love Caminiti to be better, as we need another power forward - but he’s not good enough atm

Wellard Saint, you're a hard man to impress.

Those assessments were pretty brutal, but everyone has a right to their opinion.

On balance, I think we'd be a better team right now with most of those guys playing, but it still wouldn't make us top four material,

Webster is better than Stocker one on one, or was.

Stocker is getting better but I think we have missed JW a bit, though Rory Weightman tore him a brand new one last week.

100%...It's why Hayes should have been named after a few weeks in the ressies. Much better option that Caminiti.

But Lenny will never play again.
He got too old.

Caminiti is working on areas of his game that will see him as that second forward/ruck role. He will be part of the team for a long time to come.

I thought Caminity was quite effective as a second ruck given his age and lack of experience

All of them, with the exception of Hayes and Paton are definitely in our best 22. That's seven of them. It will be very interesting to see who makes way for them.

I know he hasn't been great, but he's been better than Membrey or Sharman.

Paton played VFL yesterday along with the two you mentioned.

An inform Hayes???

Seriously the bloke had one good game, and was mediocre in the rest.

Sharman says hello.

I agree, “most important” is a stretch at this stage of his spluttering career as Hayes might be as in ineffectual as Sharman over 40 games but won’t it be nice to have an option to try from Sandy?

All I asked for at the start of this season was some luck with injuries so the coaches had full access to their list. The impact to development of the list and how much time it sets the coaches back with regards to filling your team with the right talent before you can contend. Lyon is now going to need every bit of his first 4 years.

Sharman has a lot of work to do IMO. He is not strong enough to be a serious marking option and not agile enough to hold down a flankers position. Now that Hayes is fit and playing well I would have him well ahead Cooper at this time. Hayes is a huge body and creates space and makes a contest in everything he does, the other thing we saw in Saturdays game is he tackles with purpose.

Has there ever been a more hyped up 28-year-old 6 game player than Jack Hayes???
