Our form

Post: # 2054710Post nostalgicsaint »

Disregarding the fact none of us were happy with last week let's look at the year so far and see if things are as dire as some on here are making things seem.

Round 1- 8 point loss to Geelong- currently 1st on the ladder
Round 2- win against Collingwood- currently 8th on the ladder
Round 3- 4 point loss against Essendon- currently 6th on the ladder
Round 4- win against Richmond- 17th on ladder
Round 5- 1 point loss against GWS- 2nd on ladder
Round 6- 60 point loss to dogs- 9th on ladder

So we've lost to 1st, 2nd, 6th and 9th. With a big injury list, travelling frequently and facing shorter breaks than a lot of sides will have to deal with across the whole year.

If we can win this week (against 7th) the ledger doesn't look that bad as the draw opens up.

For a developing side these are good results.

Lessons learned:
We should have put Essendon to the sword. We are no good at scoreboard pressure.

We should never have let GWS get 6 goals up.

We should have learned from the first half against Richmond not to do it again against the dogs.

IMO the mulligan was the Richmond game. The dogs was a repeat performance against a better opponent.

If we were to win Miracle on Ice

I fear for the city of Adelaide

People would die

The government would have to bring in the Army to restore law and order.

Ken Hinkley would have to flee the country and be placed in a witness protection program for the rest of his life.

Don't even go there just accept what's coming.and live peacefully

We’ve played well for 1 game and 2 halves and a quarter

Vs Coll
2nd half v Rich
2nd half v Geel
Last q vs GWS

The rest has been putrid

It's all nice to think we got close in losing, but we lost the games and that's all that counts. We played poor football for parts of those losses and even in our two wins- especially against a undermanned Richmond. We have yet to put together a good four quarter game.

Agree.

My point isn't that we should be excited and expect a premiership this year.

It is that the footy club isn't burning to the ground like it seems on this site.

A good post Nostalgic but the close losses do hide some significant shortcomings. There is no doubt apart from the Bulldogs game the group are having a red hot go. But as we have learnt over the past decade effort only gets teams so far.

We have three major issues IMO -
1.Our midfield remains our achillies heal, the best we can expect is a break even result.
2. Goal kicking and F50 efficiency.
3. Injury list.

The AFL introduced the 3 zones rule to lesson congestion at centre bounces, which it has done. But it has also skewed the effect 4 x players (centre clearance) can have on a team of 18 players. If teams dont win their share of clearances and first posession they most often lose the game, its that simple. This has always been the case but it is more prominent with the current rules.

Look at the Anzac Day game, the ebbs and flow of the game was the result of who was winning clearances.

Until we become a much stronger clearance team, it wont matter what other strengths we have, we are going no where. I think its solely a player baaed issue at the Saints.

The obvious cancer in the team is goal kicking. We simply have too many players who are flaky in front of goal. That effects our ability to apply score board pressure and then kills the entire psyche of the team. If the coaching staff cant correct these players, then the club has some tough decisions to make.

The last and probably biggest long term effect on our results is our constant huge injury lists. Again we are going no where unless we can consistently put our best team on the park.

Our form against Port Adelaide however, is particularly concerning.

1 win from our last 13. Eight of which we've led in the final term, including the last three.

6 wins from our last 30.

OUCh!!

It's going to be an uncomfortable night in front of the TV. Hope the neighbours won't hear me screaming my tits off. Amazingly, I sat in calm disbelief at Marvel Stadium last Saturday after reaching a state of zen resignation 10 minutes into the game

All I want tonight is some energy and some fight.

Our loss to the Dogs is a reason they're 9th on the ladder.

Blows my mind there were fans wanting Howard back. Absolute liability.

There is a reason why we have won 27 wooden spoons, tune in to Saints games weekly, yearly if you are unsure why.

Is there any truth in the rumour some want Linton Street's suburb name changed to Losersville.

Will the Saints ever be classed as a good club ?

In the AFL era we have two wooden spoons. And we won’t be adding to that any time soon.

We’ve finished on the bottom of the AFL ladder just as often as we’ve finished on top.
