What moves were made?

We did not go to the draft

We picked up Ray, Gardner, King, Schneider, Dempster, Peake

not really a rebuild we topped up

Well I guess there was a bit of natural progression there too.
Kosi became a more permanent stay at home forward
Dawson came along not too long after and the core group got better

Point that I’m making is that that list wasn’t finished but the aging core was phased out which required adaption

Dawson came in 08 as a pick 13 rookie and was promoted the next year with 92.

In another thread Clark and Maguire were replaced by a couple of ,"waste of time' draftees.

Reality is they were replaced by Peake and Dawson.

Now we topped up. Revolving arguments again.

Armitage 06
McEvoy, Steven 07
Lynch, Stanley Dawson 08
We were Grand finalists 09
Cripps 10
Ross and Newnes in 11.

Dawson was a mature age Rookie - coming from Hawthorn

Clint Jones was a mature age rookie - from south Fremantle

Matthew Clarke, Charlie Gardner, Ryan Gamble, Dean Polo, Adam Pattison also top ups besides the other half dozen I mentioned

It’s not a rebuild because you take your draft picks, a rebuild is offloading players to secure more investment in the draft and bottoming out.

Jesse Smith and Will Johnson were taken with the draft picks we secured for X Clarke and Maguire

So you argue we lost experienced players and took kids to replace them, then change your argument when it suits you. 22 is not a mature footballer that's why they have best 22 under 22. Peake replaced Clark.

The word rebuild was modified by another poster and you continued. The point is not what Nick said, it's the inconsistent way in which you make assumptions and assessment based on a clear bias you are exhibiting and everyone who comments other than yourself can see as plain as day.

You argue around your own statements in circles.

Would you consider the last 3 years a rebuild? Does it make it so if 2 coaches did it?

Now you're an authority on rebuilds and thought Billings was a loss. It's never boring chatting with you, thats for sure.

No I would not consider the last 3 years a rebuild

Have we bottomed out

Have we offloaded to secure high end picks

Have we secured multiple first round selections

It’s just a continual list build with natural attrition

2000-2002 was a successful rebuild

2012-2014 was a failed rebuild

I guess the equalisation strategies have nothing to do with your 1990's version of a rebuild, so that's fair.

Run effectively, a rebuild from like ours from 13 -17, built around some drafts picke which we traded for and developed players and ex champs was just poorly managed.

30 players in 3 years is natural attrition for a Richo fluff of the original rebuild.

Talk about a lot of waste of time recruits.

There isn't- if there was then it wouldn't be very interesting.

Cherry picking stories like Lovett et al isn't going to prove anything either. For every Lovett or Gram there is a Gardiner or Milne.

The simple reality in my view is elite performance is a combination of Talent, Strategy and Environment.

Talent is responsible for doing the work, the club, coach and leadership team are responsible for setting the environment and strategy.

Given the number of players on any playing list vs the number of coaches and the fact coaches influence 2 out of 3 areas required for success- good clubs focus on 'setting the table' so that the right Talent is attracted and prepared to do the work to feast at said table.

I thought GT did a great job with what he had and lack of funds.

We cut our Assistant coaches, we also had a cheap medical department I know my mate was the physio they went to and he was not the best Physio one hence all the injury's.

We didn't have the money to hire a decent physio at the time.

Plus GT did about 4 jobs at the time with the saints.

But now Iam not overly impressed with GT he criticized the club a while back about our lack of paying the dept quicker but if he was a really supporter he would have chipped in with the 2-3 million we needed to wipe it off.

GT had just sold his company for over $110 million dollars so a couple of million is chicken feed for him.
