Saints lock in hardworking quartet for 2024

Post: # 2033778Post skeptic »

Stocker, Webster, Byrnes and Jones all ink one year deals.

Got to say that I’m quite surprised that we didn’t sign Stocker for longer… that’s a bit of a mystery to me.

Webster I get as there’s been commentary as to whether or not he wants to play on given his injuries.

Byrnes is only under pressure to elevate his game further and I bet he’s been challenged RE disposal.

Jones it’s a case of staying on the park.

Stocker though… easy to 22 for me. I wonder what’s going on there

The RTB reactions to certain stocker plays have not been made up i'm afraid!

Looks like stocker is doing something (or not doing something) that the boss wants from him.

i agree i reckon one of our finds for the season... but i'm not the boss!

Maybe, club wants to be able to pursue another HBF in 2024, that might be coming out of contract?
They're possibly playing safe with their $$

Got a feeling that Stocker may be an individualist and may not be adhering to the team ethos. Can’t put my finger on it just observations at training.Team is doing a drill and he is on his own doing his own.

Stocker - I think it will be mutually beneficial.

If Stocker keeps improving, finds himself as a permanent member of the team (not on the fringe) he will get a long term deal. Upside would be more cash for him. Upside for the Saints they can work out whether there is a long term future.
If it doesnt work out, can walk away. Stocker could potentially find a new home.

I thought Stocker was okay this season, but I have him well behind a fully fit Nick Coffield in that half back role

I agree. BUT maybe this is the rocket up his ass to commit to the cause and play impressive footy. RTB has been seen getting shitty with Stocker on Camera. So I hope this one year deal sends a message to keep improving and if he does we can sign him on a multi year deal with more cash.

Does that just leave Clark, Highmore, Campbell & McKenzie as uncontracted?

As well as Gresham & Coffield obviously.

Highmore should be cut his disposal in the AFL and VFL is horrendous whenever he disposes of the ball in the VFL its often back straight away that's why he gets so many positions.
Campbell is a great team man and should get a 1 year deal McKenzie i would like to get a 1 year as well, fully fit he top 22 standard well he was.
Clark is interesting are they seeing if they can trade him I hope he gets a 2 year deal.

Agree, I'd take Coffield ahead of Stocker. And I'd have Billings before Byrnes.

Highmore takes the kick ins for Sandy

When you’re tasked with that responsibility, generally it means you are one of the better kickers in the team

My initial thoughts on him in the AFL was he was a horrendous kick (maybe nerves?)

But games I’ve watched in the VFL he’s been solid with ball in hand

Good decisions. Jones is a game breaker if his body is right - that's worth one more punt.

Stocker can build his worth next year.

Byrnes needs to continue his improvement and he will get a longer deal next year.

Webster a stalwart and a leader.

It feels to me like they’re saying we’d like options and room in 12 months thanks..

Might be a combination of things.
I suspect with Jones the 12 months might say that we've not got the value out of you that we should have and we want to see if you can get your body right.
Similar with Webster who has also missed large chunks of the season.
Stocker might be "let's see what we can get with a full pre-season".
Byrnes is a geniune "we'd like options".
