Only 1 former Saint left in the finals

Post: # 2031349Post Sainternist »

Or at least to my reckoning: Blake Acres

Can’t see the Scumbaggers winning the flag, so we shouldn’t be taunted by seeing yet another grand final where there are former St.Kilda players basking in premiership glory, just to rub more salt into our wounds.

You never know Darragh Joyce may still get a game in the finals for Lions if there are injuries.
I notice he’s just been given an extension to his contract for next year.

I think I would actually feel happy for DJ if he got to play in a premiership. It would certainly be the luck of the Irish, if he got called up! ☘️

It's good we have moved on from thinking of Pettracca as an honorary Saint.

Wingers
Brad Hill 178cm 76kg outside power runner
Blake Acres 190 89kg outside power runner

Imagine Acres and Wood on opposite wings

It was always coming back to bite us.
I think the Hill trade would have been done without including Acres.

Nailing trades, hanging on to your first and 2nd rounders and trying to develop your talent is the key.

Not getting bent over for picks and throwing away a young bloke like Acres as steak knives on top of that!!

Thanks Lethers

Even after Neal-Pullen tried to damage Acres shoulder multiple times in the first quarter, so glad Goodwin's mob have flopped again.

Is it the Richo factor, not very pleasing for them.

I want you to tell us why you think he was expendable? What changed Cho and Lethers mind about a guy we picked up at pick 19.

Blake was always an elite runner. He can take contested marks. He is a bull in tight. He ran 16 km tonight. He had 25 sprint efforts (the most of any player on the ground) and he had 8 repeat sprint efforts (double any one else)

Let's hope we change the way we develop our talent. Let's hope we give blokes enough consistency and enough opportunities to settle into a position that suits them.

Ratts did it with Sincs and with Battle. After losing Acres in 2020 we were lucky we got Mason Wood for nothing a year later

Well it’s pretty clear he has deficiencies as two clubs have been happy for him to go. Who can tell maybe he’s uncoachable and runs his own race.

Is Max Gawn without faults. Is Brad Hill without faults.

Plays out of his skin in both finals. Critical with defensive actions last week... Blake saved Carlton last week against Sydney and wins it this week

AND...under duress

He obviously has a hairline fracture in his collar bone and the Blues footy department and the head coach jab him up and prefer him to whatever other talent is available

The guy might be a knob and not be the brightest tool in the shed, but who gives a fvck!! Utilise the talent on your list. We're not drafting them for their intelligence

Although...Harry Mackay is proving you should at least have half a brain

So he played as that’s the best they’ve got even injured. Your words.

Would he play in front of Hill or Wood and a fit McKenzie?

Freo f***ed more than we did. Acres showed a lot for them and it was surprising that he was let go for nothing.

Would he play in front of Wood and McKenzie? Of course he would now

He's just proven himself in two consecutive cut throat finals. It's a hypothetical you posed and it's not relevant but keep digging

You're interpreting my words regarding his injury and twisting things to suit yourself. I meant that Acres has got courage. Same with Cripps who had bruised ribs. The Blakinator has heart and has the endurance and physique for the modern game

Well said Scollop.

Curly, I cannot believe your comments here about Blake! He is a very good, strong bodied footballer with excellent attributes, which we NEED. Well done to him. Winners are grinners and he's played in two winning finals already and done very well for his team.

Every time I see him play well, I get another annoying reminder of that incompetent, 'boy's club' Lethlean's monumental stuff-ups, at a time when we badly needed to get it right!
As I said, only a weakly administered club like St Kilda would have appointed this fool as their CEO.

Just because clubs move players on - doesn’t make them right

We’ve moved on plenty of players - mistakenly (McEvoy)

In fact
Clubs make as many mistakes as they do correct decisions

Freo and StK are unsuccessful for a reason
They make bad decisions more often than not!

This was the point I was going to make. He appears to have licence to roam with Carlton which he'd never get under Ross.

If you go back to our threads on him when he played for us, I'm sure his tackle count would have come up.

I could sum up his career with us in three bullet points.
  • Doesn't tackle
    • Doesn't apply pressure
      • Ineffective long bombs into F50

We'll have to ditch that friggin alignment with Sandringham to really fix this problem though.
