The Fat F*#k's dislikes

Post: # 2030834Post saynta »

From the heraldsun.com.au

DISLIKES

1. MISSED SHOTS AT GOAL

It was Melbourne on Thursday night and St Kilda on Saturday afternoon. The Saints were beaten by four goals and while it looked like the Giants controlled a lot of the game, the scoreboard was OK. Twice the Saints came from seven goals down to get close-ish, but when you’re so far in arrears, there’s little room for error. And the Saints made errors. In the second quarter, Seb Ross missed a goal, Dan Butler was short on a snap and Max King missed another, before he kicked two goals. It was the “almost’’ Saints, but not just good enough. In the last quarter, the inside 50 count was 17-12 to the Saints but they kicked 2.3 and four complete misses. They can’t threaten with that return.

2, THE SMALL-FORWARD PROBLEM

Dan Butler and Jack Higgins didn’t get it done. Higgins had 14 touches and Butler seven touches and they combined for just one goal. Add quiet games from Phillipou (nine touches) and Caminiti (three touches) and the Saints struggled forward. Mitch Owens was OK, while King has some bad habits. He plays for free kicks, he waves his arms at umpires in frustration and reacts to the moment instead of getting involved in the next moment or play. In other words, he gets distracted by what’s happened. He is carrying an injured shoulder which will probably require surgery in the off-season, but that’s nothing to do with the body language.

So glad the media has highlighted Kings poor attitude and poor kicking. Cost us finals last year and can be put of his game with incredible ease. Very fragile and immature mentally and needs to turn that around quickly because soon enough we won’t be able to makes excuses based on him being young.

Some hard home truths the only way to move forward.

Peris will take one of Butler or Higgins spots next year. That's on top of a mid coming in for Gresham.

The sad reality is that Higgins and Butler were out top two goalkickers for the season.

They were and why is that bad that they were our leading goal kickers?

I'd prefer if the umpires actually pay the clear frees to King for holding. As for being easily put off his game as the Vortex posted he missed a goal then banged through three.

Some of our players give the impression of feeling entitled -- e.g. Max King of Haileybury, used to towering over his opponents at school level. Dan Bulter and Higgo playing for free kicks.

To his credit, Kingsley has got the GWS playing blue collar football.

RTB is blue collar too but hasn't yet fully instilled the blue collar ethic right across the board. Gifting games to players who haven't earned their dues doesn't help.

Shoulld be a focus of the off-seaso IMHO. No sense of entitlement.

Don't think Peris is going to make it, expecting him to be cut, just doesn't have a football pedigree.

even worse, Sharman showed glimpses in his last few games he might actually have depth/fringe potential and now with the potential of Members not playing again probably worth keeping for another year whereas Peris has had enough time and is even further off the pace and had enough time on the list.

King kicked 3.1 (28.12 for the year) and showed his mental toughness by bouncing back straight after missing the easy goal.

Also how’d “clearly not AFL level” Sharman go?

Does anyone rack up more Ls than yourself?

Flog.

Both Butler and King have manufactured shots for goal by playing for frees, even 50s.

Not bad.

Wish they could learn to kick better.

Butts was off his game/confidence on Saturday. He can usually kick those.

If you have failed to win a marking contest, playing for a free isn’t a bad option if you are a long dangling daddy long legs like Daniher or King. Well, it isn’t the only option but there must be at least one opportunity per game to collect one, and face it, these long legs have got little chance of crumbing a useful handball in a beaten contest. And that context could start even prior to the arrival of the ball. I reckon the coaches and stats people tell them that it pays dividends - I don’t think it’s immaturity..Does that sound plausible ? Or am I being fanciful?

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Peris did enough to keep his spot after his one match, but was dropped because we have too many small fwds. Unfortunately ours decided they want to be lead up targets.

Even Lyon commented after his debut that he found out how far off Peris was. How many years do you give these project players, is a good athlete but doesn’t have a football pedigree.

I didn't hear that but you don't write a kid off after his first game. How is Philippou going after 25 games?

King looks slow and useless once the ball hits the deck. Looks like he isn't trying and even when he chases it looks half-hearted. The keyword being 'looks', just not sure if it appears that way or is reality? Some players have that lackadaisical appearance. Just wish he had more muscles, strength, and 'prick' in him like Tom Lynch from the Tigers or Hawkins from Geelong.

A massive difference, couldn’t be bigger actually.

Pou was taken as a first rounder, a recruitment that is not considered a highly speculative long shot, aka project player.

If Pou had one name to his game after the amount of time Peris has been in the system then well…you get my point.

Peris only decided to play AFL in his mid teens and was always considered a project player and a long shot.

Attempts too many marks from the back or side of a pack, would have worked well for him in the juniors.

King is very good when the ball hits the ground, especially for his size.
