BUT!, if Cordy doesn't come up then watch out.
Was he injured Vort?
I thought he was but maybe not
Well I wondered that too. There’s been no report of an injury that I can find but he played only 30 odd minutes across 3/4.
Easy to be critical of his 1 touch but he really wasn’t on the ground that much and I don’t know why

Cordy got 1 possession in 3 quarters

That’s why he was subbed

Those not used on Saturday night all played for Sandringham
Bytel
Campbell
Heath
Sharman
Peris
Adams
Highmore
Connolly
Van Es

With Webster and Wood both unlikely and Cordy near useless Bytel definitely comes in.
Then why not blood Heath rather play Campbell, he can't do worse than Cordy, plus he could provide a better if weak 2nd ruck option and be a tall threat in the forward line and so take away a tall Sun defender.
Someone else will be gifted an undeserved game on /Sandringham form.
Highmore or Sharman whoever will put in the effort Lyon wants.

Given the outstanding games from Bytel and Campbell I'd bring them both in. Great to see that Heath is building but I'd want to see more than one good game before bringing him in.

Out: Wood, Webster, Cordy
In: Paton, Bytel, Campbell

B: Paton, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Sinclair, Battle, Stocker
C: Byrnes, Crouch, Hill
HF: Higgins, Caminiti, Gresham
F: Butler, Campbell, Owens

Foll: Marshall, Clark, Ross

Int: Phillipou, Bytel, Windhager, NWM
Sub: Sharman

Though I'd be more than happy to see Campbell get an opportunity after all the hard work he's put in, I worry he might leave us exposed in terms of forward half pressure. But good luck to him if he does get a game. Has worked his butt off.

Is it confirmed that Cordy is injured?

Think this is close but Heath provides a better forward option and apparently is a great tackler. I'd have him in ahead of Campbell.

Highmore would be my sub as he can go back, and Paton can go to the wing.

I recon it's more efficiently spelt that way Loris, makes me feel connected to todays youth and their butchering of the English language.

My view, whilst limited because I was not able to watch the entire VFL game, is that all of the AFL Listed players performed very well yesterday, showing the depth of our List

I do not know the caliber of the opposition but I assume Essendon had AFL Listed players available so like for like

Campbell, if he plays, has to ruck

Heath has mobility and a thirst for the contest - so a first rate prospect

Adams similarly has size and talent

Lyon has inherited well

It looks fair enough, considering.
But then I notice the HB and C lines:

Hill 179cm
Sincs 180cm
Byrnes 181cm
Stocker 184cm
Crouch 184cm
Josh Battle 193cm

??

Maybe 'ol Coopers Red or Mr Highmore, both 193cm, will factor in the selectors' calculations, just because they have a few inches?

We have some good kids still to play, either later this year or next.

Heath, still only 20, Allison, Peris, Adams, Hotton, McLennan, Keeler and Van Es.

The future looks f****** good.

Plus Bytel and Highmore, both too f****** good to be playing VFL, IMHFO.

Here's my take on performances throughout the game.
Up To Half Time…
Campbell was the dominant big man on the field. Impressive and strong, real workhorse. Bytel was ‘best on’ (by some margin in Q1 but was tagged hard in Q2 which restricted his output.
Sharman was impressive and a ‘constant’ through the first half. Has done his chances ‘no harm’. Highmore was the rock in defence, repeatedly holding up Bomber forward thrusts. Took a number of contested marks. Close to our best in Q2. He was well supported by Van Es who looks a future player. A powerhouse overhead taking some ripping contested marks. Oscar Adams was good in support.
Like the hard work of Max Heath. He needs a little more work with his endurance but he is a genuine prospect. Just 20 (for the whole of season 2023). Tough and physical.
Peris was quite effective being on the end of a few goals. Tackles hard and did show his pace. Note that RTB made a point of speaking to Peris for at least 5 minutes at the Open Training session last Tuesday. He needed a run in the VFL before being considered; he may well be in the coach’s eye. He’s a watch. Connolly was also good. We have plenty of backup, that was obvious.
Not a lot to say from Saints players in Q3. Heath definitely lifted his work rate and pulled down a strong contested mark, then goaled. Connolly was clean in traffic and impressed. He is a clever and skilled player. Bytel was back in the game, whilst Campbell rolled on, seemingly unopposed.
Bytel, Heath and Campbell started Q4 in strong fashion. Heath showed he can lead up and kick straight. He kicked his 3rd early in the last. Then backed that up with two more to finish with 5 - have to like a big man who is an accurate kick. His last one was the result of a free then a 50. Good to see Connolly roving to Campbell’s ruck work. His game grew throughout the match. Peris kicked a true opportunist’s goal late in Q4.
All Saints VFL players made encouraging contributions. It would not surprise to see any of them play AFL at some point this season.

I don’t understand why everyone wants to bring Tom Campbell in. He’s too old. He’s not the future. He is VFL standard at best. Why not bring in Max Heath and blood games into him. He kicked a bag of 5. Heath held his own in the practice match against Melbourne when I was there watching. I don’t understand the love for Campbell he’s no good and will be more than likely delisted at the end of the year. We should be rewarding form. Bytel killed it with 32 disposals and 2 goals. Instant selection in for Webster. Max Heath with 5 goals is an instant in for underperforming Cordy. Move Paton to Webster’s position as a lockdown defender.

It would be nice to have a tall wingman but I certainly don't want to go back to the days of Battle on the wing and play an ineffective tall there just for the sake of size. Sincs and Stocker are both strong overhead and won't be playing on talls. Battle has been doing just fine as a key defender. Between Crouch, Ross, Clark, Windy, Pou and Owens there are enough strong/big bodies to rotate through the midfield. Keep in mind that the opposition starting midfield is Rowell (180cm), MIller (178cm) and Anderson (192cm).

Anyway, hopefully Wood is available and we don't have to worry about reshuffling the wings at all.
