I wouldn't be surprised if recruiting figjams is precisely what we want right now.

It doesn't necessarily mean they turn out like dickheads. Battle was a bit figjam when we drafted him.

If you talk the talk then you have to walk the walk . I'm not saying the kid can't play or wont be a gun recruit just saying IMO needs to be a little more humble but as I said IMO

Yeah not having a go at ya mate. Just saying that figjams aren't all bad... as long as they are guns and don't disrupt other players (or embarrass the club!). Humble is cool too. I just want footballers who want success, not "playing in front of big crowds", so that was a bummer to hear.

Just about every phantom draft has us taking Phillipou at pick 10.

I say don't be surprised if we end up taking Elijah Hewitt with that pick.

He is the kind of explosive, gold kicking versatile mid that we are looking for. The kid has the right attitude and likes to work hard. The gospel according to RTB.

The naysayers will naysay. But he is a goodun. He fits our needs better than show pony Phillipou.

Just saying.

Why not both?

Sadly, we won't get both.

If you leave Hewett to our second pick, he will be well and truly gone before we get our chance.

Our only hope to get both is to move up the board.

Can't see that happening either.

I have a feeling that is the play we are going to try and do.
I can see us trying to grab one of Giants picks in the teens to grab him. Don’t know the cost, but can see it happening.

If Mackenzie slips to 9th, is there any reason we should take him with our pick or just wait to match a with an NGA pick?

Clubs that have existing links to NGA players are now unable to match bids inside the top 40 selections on the prospects they’ve developed due to a recent AFL rule change.
So, basically, we'd have to hope that MacKenzie slips to pick 40 - which won't happen.
We have picks 28 and 32 that we could hope he slips to, but he won't get that far down.

Thanks I knew there was a change of rules but wasn't sure what the changes were.

This obviously isn't the same for Father/Son with all the Ashcroft talk.

That's right...F/S is different...which seems fair.

Dark day for the football club about to have back to back first round picks leave the club after two years. Anyone celebrating this is clueless. What a disaster.

We have to try and recruit the very best available. If we don’t we may as well fold as a club

If our culture is right and if we value these talented youngsters then they will stay

What about the Vic boys going interstate? By your logic, we have every chance of claiming a top 10 pick to us

There’s always a chance to get someone from up North like the Gold Coast

Bailey Humphrey will become available in two years time

Even if that was the case, they would have to pay through the nose to get them.

He seems more than happy to be coming to Victoria and Ross,Hayes , Goddard and Harvey can get him firing.

Great selection, seems like a DeGoey type.

1. Our culture isn’t right and this is public record
2. We are not a destination club
3. A long history suggests drafting kids in predicaments like phillipou almost always backfire.
4. Phillipou isn’t even necessarily the best player available at the pick

Unmitigated disaster we will all see coming.
