The highest paid should be in the top 5.

Oh come on.
You don't earn votes that way.
Need a decent amount of possessions, including good disposal efficiency

He needs to build a body, and develop an Alpha male attitude, where he expects to dominate every opposition.
Needs to grow a beard ..no doubt about it ..needs to look alpha and menacing not a borat clone .

It’s a different system, so you can’t directly compare in my opinion. You see many posters saying ‘apologies’ because most people only give votes to 5 players where as the TBM means that you could have 10 or 15 players getting votes in some of our good wins.

Explained in a post from saintbrat from a thread a few years back (not sure if they’re still voting this way)

Trevor Barker Award voting system:

Five coaches (Senior Coach plus 4x Assistant Coaches) will vote in each match.
Not all players need to be given a vote
A poor result may see only 3-4 players receive votes, a strong result might see 15-16 players
Coaches to vote confidentially, ie. not confer with each other
Each player can receive votes as follows:
1 vote: played role effectively (but should not be used as an encouragement reward)

2 votes: among the best for St Kilda in this game

3 votes: one, two or very occasionally, three players who are deemed the very best on ground

4 votes: an exceptionally outstanding game, very rarely given (say 10+ goals, or 45+ possessions)

Here’s my take on the top 10

1-Sinclair
2-Wilkie
3-Ross
4-Crouch
5-Steele
6-Membrey
7-Marshall
8-Battle
9-Webster
10-Windhager

Pretty right.

However I believe King will be in the Top 10.

The B&F is heavily influenced by players doing what the coaches wanted. So roles players do better than say in awards like the Brownlow.

While many of us desired King to be playing differently, I would tend to think that he was generally playing how the coaches actually wanted him to play. Then statistically he had a top 10 year as well, as compared to the other leading key forwards in the game King ranks very well. So I would be most surprised if he did not make it.
(As an aside I King it was not so much that he was not worthwhile this season, it is that we all know that he could be so much better. But part of what is required to be better is the coach using him better, and part for his team mates to use him better. It is not just the aspects that King personally is not yet good enough in).

Dmac if he had of played more games would have made it.

Wood I think is a good chance to sneak into the Top 10 as he is a player who does exactly what the coaches wanted him to do and who worked his but off. He just lacked a little polish at times, but who did the role that was asked. He had had of just had of had that bit more polish more often he would have been Top 10 easily. wood and Dmac this year both played the "modern" wing role very well.

Windy to miss out.

Going on that criteria, Paton would be unlucky to miss a Top 10 as I can't think of a small forward that got off his chain.

Is B&F the right term? Perhaps the C&D Award, Consistent & Durable. Nothing about the above screams that mythical X factor does it? Where's that encouragement? Just the line..."Played role effectively" makes me yawn.

B.M wrote: Wed 31 Aug 2022 10:18pm Max Would clearly be in the top 10 at half way

But a very average run of about 8 games will see him just slip out of the top 10 imo

Higgins the same
Some fans who let their emotions get in the way of their objective assessment of Max. It's no coincidence he had a shocking second half of the year and not really any coincidence that the teams performance was also impacted after the bye

The expectation is high for a reason and he failed to deliver to that expectation in 2022.

Agree he needs to get in the Gym and he needs to become more aggressive and become the peacock. He also needs to improve his onfield attitude and resilience because too many times he sooked it up and dropped his bundle, and when he dropped his bundle early in a game it effected his team mates. He needs to learn how important his onfield demeanour is to his teammates, especially the ones working their backsides off to provide him with scoring opportunities.

The banned user (multiple times) who repeatedly claims Max can’t play forward and should find another position, despite kicking 52 goals (6th in Coleman) and finishing 3rd in contested marks, all in a very average team.

Also claims he ‘lost’ us multiple games while refusing to acknowledge his match winning performances.

Rinse and repeat.

Classic troll behaviour.

Each to their own opinion?

If you disagree

Debate or ignore…

Max did lose us one important game, through poor kicking- that happens… at least he was getting a kick…but it was a few games before when he threw in the towel… that was unacceptable!

He has the tools to be an AFL gun! Does he have the mentality?

It was the games where he threw in the towel that would be of most concern to the coaches, mental strength and resilience is a massive pre requisite for any player expected to be the marque player in an elite comp.

A debate requires a back and forth, trolling is just parroting the same thing over and over without presenting any response when challenged.

Which are these games where King ‘gave up’? There were a number of games where the whole team didn’t turn up, why single him out?

Why continually highlight the games he ‘lost’ for us and ignoring the games he won?

You don’t accidentally kick 50 goals in a season, especially in modern footy. This is an even more impressive feat considering the way we use the ball and him.

At the start of the season would you not have considered 50 goals from King a great success?

I don't know who is worse your infatuation with bagging Max King or Curley bagging the umpires IMO both very short sighted  but IMO only

You say bagging but I say objective observations. We don't all have to carry on like fan boys. Max still has more hard work to do to become the marquee forward expected of a DP4.
