Jones and votes

Post: # 1966942Post terry smith rules »

New thread as we are asked not to make comments in the votes topic

How can anyone give a vote to Jones?

In the 3rd quarter he had 2 , I repeat 2 disposals at 50% efficiency. Giving him the grand total of 2 fantasy points for the quarter!

In other words when it got hot in the middle, he checked out

In general I don’t think he offers much, he travels much of the game east/west, and is below average on most key indicators for a midfielder.

I don’t see a future for him in a St Kilda team

A gun? Bit of a stretch. As far as gun mids go in the competition he’s not in the conversation. He is inconsistent. From week to week as well as quarter to quarter as demonstrated by the OP.

Should wear a blue and white apron, biggest ball butcher in a team that has plenty

Also calls for it when he should not, fumbles, confusing baulks. Tries damn hard and is tough but not a mid in a genuine finals ready side.
You know, recently I have thought more of Hind.

Seems to pick and choose a bit too much.

His second efforts have been bit disappointing.

He looks off lately for whatever reason.

I may have lost concentration in the 3rd quarter.
But I thought Jones went hardest for the ball, did the most explosive work out of the tight contests, and did the most good overall.
I don't really want to watch it all again to see if I'm wrong.

Jones currently is not having the impact as a running ball carrier that he was when he first came to us. Geelong in 2020 worked out that if you did a hard tag on him you slow the linkup ball movement into the forward half. He is getting caught in contests and holding on the ball too long, which is a team problem at the moment that Ratts doesn't seem to be able to work out.

Check out the dropped chest mark from a Hill super pass early. Terrible unforced error. The guy is ok but nothing special. Hardly worth the cost of recruitment. Does good things does poor things. But really good players do the straight forward well without fuss.

I believe they discuss dropped chest marks on Thursdays at Moorabbin.

He is erratic and likes to be unpredictable which makes it hard for everyone else on our team especially the forwards . Gresham much the same.

More to being a midfielder than having an angry face, may bluff some including our players and coaches but doesn't seem to worry the opposition mids.
Another that doesn't seem to run quite as quickly when the opposition has the ball...unfortunately.

Seem to remember a run of games last year where he was racking up huge numbers and in the votes every week.
Definitely down this year. Do we know what his problem was at the start of the year?

I haven't been giving him votes this year. He just stood out for me as a spark of real ball-winning energy in that particular game.
When we were doing well, we were thrashing them in clearances and contested possessions -- and I kept seeing him there.

I gave him 1 vote for sheer fact he at least had a crack , didn't have a great game for sure but not many did . We have Ross ,Crouch & Steele all very handy players but all very similar in style not great ball users & not overly quick either. Sure they get a lot of ball but they don't really hurt you with precision disposal. At least Jones gives us some X factor speed & unpredictability.

With all due respect banga, the game is over now so what was the "X"? Should we not know it now?
