Barry Breen

Post: # 1945519Post happy feet »

Can someone help me out here please? Was Barry Breen from Tasmania or Victoria? I though he was from around Mentone, but a certain know it all from Tasmania insists that he was from Tasmania or born in Tasmania.

Google has not answered my question. Can someone on the forum help me here.

Cheers

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

His dad was from county Kerry. I’m pretty sure he grew up around the Southern suburbs of Melbourne.

De La Salle Malvern and Mentone according to Wikipedia and that’s never wrong.

I'm looking at thr Breen entry in the Heroes With Haloes book. It looks like his father played for Kerry before migrating to Australia. Barry was recruited from De La Salle College and played juniors for Mentone. Tasmania doesn't crack a mention. He played for Victoria.

Played squash in Sandringham - played cards with my father - I spent my mid-spent youth (1-5) with them after squash. In those days it was okay to smoke, drink, play cards and babysit

My sister's late partner went to school with him, I think at Malvern. I'm pretty sure Richard Damian Finbar (Barry) Breeders was recruited to the Saints from St Bede's at Mentone.

Funny. I thought he was still a 17 year old schoolboy at Malvern when he played in the grandfinal. Pretty sure in fact.

Started forward in a star studded line up w/ Baldick and co.

Finished at full-back in 1982 - at the nadir of our worst years.

Loved Sydney.

Wow

They wouldn’t have been playing if Ross Lyon was coach

He wouldn’t even play a 19yo Jack Steven or a 21yo Dave Armitage in 2009
Even worse
Same again in 2010 when they were a year older!!!

And he played his pretty boy wanker at full back who had been in hospital all night on a drip.

I heard Rooy state recently that Max Hudghton was the best lock down backman that he ever saw.

Pity that the tosser didn't have half the football nous of Rooy.

Jeff Moran?

Holy…then you must remember John Manzie (I thought they were the same guy for a while)

Both born 1947.
Both wingers about 5’10”
Both played about 100-150 odd games all under Jeansy.
Both retired mid-70s.
Manzie would have been 19 when he debuted?

And seeming we just smashed Richmond.

I have a VHS video of that match. I must get it out just to show disbelievers ho good The Shadow really was. In this game he was bloody unbelievable.
