Seb Ross Re-Signs

Tom Morris reports...

Seb Ross has rejected free agency and re-signed with St Kilda on a two-year deal with triggers for a third season.

The left-footer was open to opportunities elsewhere but they were few and far between.

Given how well he does his role and given that he’s a dual TBA winner... I’d have there’d have been a number of suitors chasing him.

Good on him for settling

Thanks for posting that.

Knew Seb was never going anywhere and so did the Saints. 8-) :D

I am very happy with this although I am sure I will be in the minority.

Truth be told - not the biggest fan of Seb's disposal - but - I must say I do not understand the venom.

He is not the best user of the ball - however - if Seb is the #18 player on your list - you would have a pretty healthy list.

I just hope that he does not rest on his laurels as a couple of TBA's should not guarantee him game time.

Looking forward to where he will play in 2022. Would expect Seb to be moved from mid mid field but not sure where, perhaps an all purpose pinch hitter or become a wing. Also look forward to celebrating his 200th next year.

Seb has played through some really tough times at the club and given his all. He is not a top class player but brings effort most weeks and deserves to play out his career with the Saints.

Wing is where Seb played for most of this year.

Me too on the 200th.

Pleased with this, always been a fan of Seb.
Two B&Fs in a struggling side show he has done his all for the Saints and deserves our respect.

Best news I have heard all day. Pleased Seb is staying.

He will play through the middle of the ground

Mainly wing, sometimes inside, sometimes tagging

I wonder if Seb re-signed because he really wants to be at St Kilda or if he re-signed because there was little or no interest from
the other clubs.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Obviously we wanted him, or we wouldn’t have table a two year deal with a trigger for a third.

I concur

Great post SD. I think Seb has the ability to lift for big games and I hope for his sake (and for ours) that he gets to play a few more finals

Good experienced player, might be handy off the bench, through the middle and pinch hitting in defensive roles.
Will need to make way soon for a younger player, if we are going to improve, but on a new cheaper deal, he will no doubt bring value.

Good. I have never understood how undervalued Seb seems to be in the eyes of some. There has been ridiculous speculation over the years that he would go to Essendon, based only on the fact that he is Tim Watson's nephew. My mother's parents and four sisters were all Collingwood supporters as where 19 of their 20 cousins. I have never felt the urge to start following The Filth just because of my relatives.

I am confident that Seb's third year of his contract will be triggered. A Saint for life, just like me! Onya Sebby.

It's like when nobody else wants you, your parents still love you.
Seb is the sort of midfielder you have when you stuffed up and did not draft Bontempelli and Petracca.
He will do his best but will never look like winning the game for his team as those two did in the grand final.

St Kilda's 3rd and 4th round picks have already been demoted 3 places due to free agency compensation.
Now picks 49 (287points) & 67 (69points) total 356 points
Those would allow a match for pick 40 without damaging next years first rounder.
St Kilda needs to trade in 347 more points to be able to match a pick 21 (878 points but 703 points with discount) for our NGA player.
That's pick 45.
Come on Essendon you know you want Long and Dunstan.

Our pick 9 will be demoted to pick 11 on the night because of Collingwood matching for Daicos and the Dogs matching for Darcy.
We can all hope that North have sufficient IQ to make them pay full price by naming them at No1.

Glad he re-signed, no he's not the best disposal but can kick a big goal at times plus I believe that he and Steele have sort of swapped rolls.
Seb is now the lockdown midfielder who can pick up possessions as well.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Tom Liberatore
Jack Viney
Cam Guthrie
Josh Kennedy
Tom Mitchell

Seb was good in the finals last year from memory, worked super hard and is AFL fit. This year didn't seem to be as productive or as happy playing...hard to know, but seems like he is starting to wane a little. Certainly seems to be be stopping and propping more. Last year when he moved into the tagging role, he seemed to be told to handball more and that worked.
Good to have him on the list, but has some competition for his spot.
I'm guessing like Billings it was a reduced contract.

Are we at all surprised that after shopping himself around no other club gave a serious offer?

No, not really.

Has become a depth player, with a full list he'll be borderline best 22, but unfortunately we don't often have a full list.
