Pick 9

Post: # 1922287Post B.M »

Indicative draft order has StK at 9

Last two times we had pick 9

2006
David Armitage - J.Frawley (12)/J.Riewoldt (13)

2007
Ben McEvoy - P.Dangerfield (10)/C.Rioli (12)

Need to nail this selection!

Interesting. I was pumping for Jack and Rioli.

Maybe I should be on the selection committee. I'm joking....maybe not.

Maybe trade it for Poulter from Collingwood. They gave up pick 2 for that crab.

Wasn’t Poulter pick 30?

Maybe we should’ve taken him at 27?!

Couldn't get a game in a team that finished 2nd last no thanks.

Collingwood traded this years pick 2 for 24 and 30.

Just going of Cal Twomeys rating, had him around 11 I think.
Would like to see a phantom draft come out for top 10 now it is settled.
We did well to retain that first pick this year given how much trading we did.
As BM said, we need to nail it.

Lots of duds picked with 1-8 in both those drafts.

So are you saying we made the right choices?

Or are you trying to justify selections by what other teams did?

Totally agree which ever midfielder rates the highest at our pick.

Hopefully we can get gack into the 2nd round and target another player before the bids on our NGA's come?

That's only half the story, Collingwood didn't want a high draft pick in 2021 because they didn't want to have to use it on father-son selection Nick Daicos.

By the time they use up multiple picks to pay for Daicos their draft hand will be shite, makes you wonder why they did it.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

As always

Best player available

You don’t draft for next year, you draft for the next 12 years

You don’t pass on an elite tall because you want a mid, you don’t pass up on an elite mid because you want a tall.

That’s (composition of list) is what trading is for

The National Draft is there to get the best talent through the door

Unless the National Carnival goes ahead and a KPP player has a blinder, I doubt any of the top 10 will be talls apart from Darcy. Even so at that pick an elite mid wouldnt be a reach. Andrew, Gibcus and a couple of WA talls will most likely be 1st rounders, but I feel we will take a mid.

Love that the following was used as a comparison for Darcy:
" Think of Darcy as a Max King type of forward. "

That's only because it was written before the Cooper Sharman comparison could be made😀

A write up on Josh Rachele...
Josh Rachele
Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country | Forward/Midfielder
Born 11/04/2003 | 180cm | 78kg

July Ranking: #13

Snapshot: A mercurial forward who has drawn comparisons to GWS star Toby Greene, Rachele has unbelievable smarts, skills, and a keen eye for goal.

Rachele is rightly a standout among his draft class, having taken out the Under 16 Division 1 MVP award for Vic Country in 2019. He quickly went on to represent the Murray Bushrangers, averaging a tick under 18 disposals and two goals in four games as a 16-year-old. The exciting forward hails from an elite soccer background and has quick feet to show for it, as well as the smiling celebrations you’d expect on the end of well-finished goals. Rachele is lauded for his skills and smarts in the forward half, but has shown an aptitude for midfield work with his turn of speed and ability to find the ball at ground level. He’s capable of highlight-reel moments.

Last month:

With the APS competition back underway and winding down, Murray would have been grateful Rachele found some of his best form during the break. At the start of July, he snared six goals from 17 disposals and eight marks in a wonderful performance against Northern, helping the Bushrangers to a 16-point win. The enigmatic talent went on to don Vic Country colours and was a little quiet early on against Vic Metro, before making the most of a midfield move to finish with 20 disposals and a goal. He holds his spot, but certainly has top 10 quality.

St. Kilda Saints > Josh Rachele.

"The 18-year-old views himself as a small forward (179cm) who can push into the midfield"

I just have a horrible feeling that we are going to be a pick or 2 away from being able to draft the player we most need which is a genuine mid.

I wouldn’t put to much stock in is having pick 9 come draft night. Lots of wheeling and dealing to happen between now and then. In sating that there was a kpp called Blake around pick 15 who looks like he could be a Carlisle replacement in years to come
