Aged 25 and under

Post: # 1918061Post cwrcyn »

Here's a team of players aged 25 and under. Are things as bad as some on here seem to think?

Paton Howard Wilkie
McKenzie Clavarino Highmore
Coffield Byrnes Connelly
Clark Battle Butler
Higgins King Sharman

Marshall Steele Gresham

Inter: Bytel Long Joyce Lonie

Time is not against us. If we recruit and trade well over the next two draft/trade periods we'll have a solid team for the next 6 or 7 years.

I wonder if that team could beat the Gold Coast Suns.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

It would beat the team that turned up to play Carlton last week.

There's a few average players in that team and arguably not the type capable of taking us to a flag.

Paton Howard Wilkie
McKenzie Clavarino Highmore
Coffield Byrnes Connelly
Clark Battle Butler
Higgins King Sharman

Marshall Steele Gresham

Inter: Bytel Long Joyce Lonie

Bolded players are the ones I think can still be on our list in 4 years time. Doesn't mean they all will be, just the ones I think are capable of it.

Let's say two thirds of the bolded make it. That is 12 players.

Some of our 25 to 30 year olds will hang on (say 6?)

Basically need to find 4 players for the starting 22 and some depth.

Not impossible by any stretch but will depend how many of the highlighted 18 develop well.

Good post
I had around 15 core that we could build around
It’s why now abs the next 2 drafts /trade periods are critical for us we are on a knife edge
Get it right , add some talent plus some star power (that can also come from within IF some of our younger brigade become elite - I think Ming, Roma and Clarke have the ability to do it and we could be challenging for next 5/7 years with a real shot

For me huge question marks over Long, Claravino, McKenzie., Lonie who have been in the system for quite some time now
Unknowns Sharman, Bytel , Connelly and Byrnes , Allison - seen a bit of not enough yet.

That said yes it is a solid base IF from this we end up with 5-8 A grade players for positions . Steele only one so far. Marshall next best, King Should be and perhaps Howard .

This team is missing a 2nd ruckman, so for me:

Paton Howard Wilkie
McKenzie Clavarino Highmore
Coffield Byrnes Connolly
Clark Battle Butler
Higgins King Sharman

Marshall Steele Gresham

Inter: Bytel Long Heath Joyce

Clavarino,. Joyce, Long, and Lonie probably won't be of value in the long term. We need to recruit a 198cm key defender, a quick, clever midfielder , and hope that Heath has what it takes.

There's not a lot of star quality, but it's a fairly strong base to build on. When there's a solid base, all it takes is to pick up 3 quality players and it can change things dramatically for the better and move you from mid table to contender.

We'll probably get the 7th best player in the draft. There's only one key position player in the top dozen. If it's 'best available' policy we'll have ourselves a new midfielder. Where we get that 198cm Backman is going to be the big challenge
