Josh Battle
I really rated Battle but his form this year has been ordinary at best. IMO just seems really flat Atm

Re: Josh Battle
He would be on par with Carlisle selection wise I suppose, for different reasons. Battle wasn’t picked as a first choice player at the beginning of last season remember?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Josh Battle
I thought he was best suited forward, given his attributes. Thought he might be effective on the wing, for the same reasons.
Fact is, his best footy has been played at HB. And on the weekend car crash he was completely inept forward and was moved into defence after HT and immediately looked more at home.
So I’ve changed my mind
CHB is where I’d play him

Re: Josh Battle
As it seems
I thought a 6’4” player with a huge tank and great hands good kick might do ok on the wing? Like another tall bloke with similar albeit better attributes (a blonde fellow)
It seems he can’t find the footy in the middle of the ground though!
So CHB it is for me

Re: Josh Battle
Good key forward, good key defender, s*** wingman. Not sure why we're persisting with this experiment.

Too many whingers in the team, unwilling to play elsewhere.

Re: Josh Battle
If he's unable to find a permanent role in the backline he will be forever that square peg. Good endurance but a bit like a steam train, similar manoeuvrability.
Time to tell Carlisle his best position is wherever the coach and team needs him.
Howard, Wilkie and Battle as the talls down back.

Re: Josh Battle
Carlisle is the best CHB and Battle is a natural forward.
In a strong team he would be a half forward drifting down to goal

Re: Josh Battle
That’s what I thought
Can’t get a kick forward of centre.
Carlisle is too slow to play as a key defender ... CHB is no longer a position.

Re: Josh Battle
Only Tim, Jack B and occasionally Max get a kick forward of centre. Other than May, Lever and Gawn of course. Nothing left for Josh.

Re: Josh Battle
Sounds like Petracca's role at Melbourne. I thought this would be a role for Membrey to add strength, bursts of speed and introduce the capability to set up or run forward for goals. I see Battle interchanging with King over FF and CHF like the good old days of Loewe and Heatley.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Tue 06 Apr 2021 7:23pm Carlisle is the best CHB and Battle is a natural forward.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Re: Josh Battle
Saturday Josh should be sent to McGovern and shut his intercept marking down
McGovern needs to be either taken deep or right up the ground. Allowing him to play 30-40 metres out he will kill you every time

This makes a lot of sense. I’d like to see him have a crack at it.terry smith rules wrote: ↑Thu 08 Apr 2021 5:00pm Saturday Josh should be sent to McGovern and shut his intercept marking down
