Has Hannebrey been a good signing?

Post: # 1890552Post Impatient Sainter »

Has Hannebrey been a good signing?

He has played 13 games in 2 seasons. IMO the Swans and everyone in AFL knew his body was cooked and they would be laughing at us getting his salary off their books.

He wont play Round 1 and has shown he doesnt have the resilience to string enough games together. He may have lifted standards when fit, but lets be honest he has spent more time injured than not.

He still has 2 years to run on his contract so lets hope he can turn things around, but recent history says otherwise.

Short answer 'yes' with an 'if', long answer 'no' with a 'but'.

He will be groomed to take over from Brett Ratten in 10 years time and the dynasty will continue. The banner for round 1, 2032 will read "Debt what Debt". That probably doesn't answer the question.

No, i don't think so.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Not at this stage

Still 3 years to run, if he plays 60 odd good games and helps us win finals, perhaps yes?

Money doesn’t bother me, we had to pay someone

He cost FA in the draft, and actually helped us to select Battle

No and it's not a good look when one of the highest paid on the list can barely get on the park and when he does he can't string two games together. At his age and history at the Swans, the odds of him struggling to play were huge.

This just has to be a dark, dark joke.

11 full games out 41..

And these should have been the best years of the long contract..

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Not yet, but the positive part of a long term deal is that there's plenty of time for it to pay off.

Obviously he hasn't been so far, but geez, he does look head and shoulders above the rest when he does play.

Hopefully he plays 50% of the games this year and all finals. Durability is clearly not his "one-wood", as the MMM-types would say.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

The netter question is has Crouch been a good signing?
Crouch is a good player and Hanneberry a very good player, but both are not worthy of 5 year deals.
Hanneberry has squeezed almost all he can out of his body and all he can out of our books.
Crouch is better than who in our inside midfield?
Not better than Steele, Gresham, Jones (well maybe his ball use), Ross (on a par).
So why the 5 year deal?

Of course Dan Hannebery was a good signing!!

You can't judge him on his games played with St Kilda alone, we need to remember that he was the first gun player to come to the club in 2019, which would have been instrumental in jagging the Awesome Foursome that came across last year, followed by Crouch and Higgins this year.

His influence on the training track and in the rooms on the crop of talented young blokes such as Steele, Coffield, Clark, Gresham, Paton, Long, Battle, King is immeasurable.

Sure, his injuries have restricted him severely but if the team makes finals again in 2021, Hannebery will be a major contributor with his experience, skills and leadership.

"I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened."

"Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of eighty and gradually approach eighteen."

Is there any actual hard evidence that any of that is true? I hear people say it repeatedly that Dan's signing was somehow instrumental in our later dealings -- call me crazy but I'd guess it was the money offered by the Saints not the hope of playing with a guy with a broken body but I'm a cynic -- because I see people say it all the time but little in the way of evidence it's true.

Forget he’s on the list sometimes.
