If we had a pre-game song

Post: # 1883240Post Jacks Back »

My good friend has written and recorded a song that could be the pre-game (before the bounce) song where everyone can sing along, like Liverpool and Port Power do, except this song is actually about our football team. Give it a listen. What do you think?

As ex-president Peter Summers said:

FFS!!!

That is close to the worst thing I’ve ever heard.

The only place I could see it working would be as the theme song to the ‘Unpluggered’ podcast.

The fact that it’s been up since 9pm last night without a comment speaks volumes of its value.

As they say in the classics... “don’t give up your day job!”

Not quite in the league of "Gerry and the Pacemakers "
"You'll Never Walk Alone"

The Liverpool diaspora at the packed MCG

Or the Tomahawk Chop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

I must say I used to enjoy 'The Saints Are Coming' for that short period we used to have it at Marvel Stadium.

Err. No. Just no. I always thought "Amazing Grace" might be good. We could tweak the lyrics. Amazing saints etc...

I think we should have opposition ‘dissing songs’. One for each team. No need to take them too seriously, but a good laugh. Distribute lyrics and melody and time to sing on Twitter prematch.

Could be a lot of fun.....

Dusty is over, over over

Over the hill

Hilly is a goer, goer, goer,

Etc..

Not academy stuff...

I think St kinda could be the most musical team....

We are the most artistic, skid rowish, gallows humor mixed with sunny optimism....

I think we should make a thread on Saintsational, and a competition to create the best opposition dissident g songs...

It will make going to the footy more fun...

St Kilda will get more exposure...

Start something right here!

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Love the sentiment if not the execution.

Think the commenters are being a little harsh here.

I always thought we should play a song by The Saints before the game. The lyrics to Angel could be tweaked to make a banging pre-game song.

This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf--
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

The point of a St Kilda song was to have our own song (not necessarily this one) where the fans can sing along and be inspired before the game and not to replace the club song.

It wasn't to pinch someone else's song and and tweak the words like that guy walking through a storm or some guy and girl getting torn apart where the club would have to pay royalties - this is free. Nor to be racist using a tomahawk (WTF).

What if they got a good band or singer to sing it? Leave out the singing - what about the words?
Don't the following words inspire you?

We’re all here to see the Mighty Saints come marching in
When you’re with St Kilda, you are family, you are kin
We’ll watch you rise and we’ll watch you soar
St Kilda, the Mighty Saints forever more
You know that we bleed RED, WHITE and BLACK
For all of us there is no turning back
St Kilda, the Mighty Saints, you’re in our blood
St Kilda, the team we love
We’re St Kilda through and through and to our core
Oh, St Kilda, the Mighty Saints forever more

Good poem, doesn't translate so well into song. at least as it was presented. It just doesn't fit very well and isn't at all catchy IMO.

What about the second verse of "From St Kilda To Kings Cross".

'I want to see the sun go down
From St Kilda esplanade
Where the beach needs reconstruction
Where the palm trees have it hard

I'd give you all of Sydney Harbour
All that land and all that water
For that one sweet promenade!"

Beautiful song.

For most of the last decade the Benny Hill Theme would have been the perfect segue to our "chip it sideways or backwards" game plan.

The first verse from 'The Crowd' by The Cat Empire would work quite well - it's slow, doesn't need to be in tune, and can be chanted pretty easily.

Lord unchain my hands
Let me sing inside the crowded trams
Let me dance among the traffic jams
We're going to sleep
On the St Kilda sands
Lord unbind my feet
Let me mingle with the good people
We meet
Water rising up into the street
Unbind my feet

Love Queen, can't stand that song.

Outside of a few songs and the Highlander soundtrack I've just never got the appeal. Camp, frothy nonsense. Not as bad as KISS but getting there.
