Free Agent Trade Period On Friday

Post: # 1880574Post ace »

The free agent trade period starts tomorrow Friday 30 Oct.
The AFL has been pussing around with Patrick Dangerfield of the AFLPA, and so we still don't know the salary cap for 2021 will be or how many players will be allowed on team lists.

What a farce.
Time to tell the AFLPA, your selfish president has not been interested in negotiation for 4 weeks, he had other things on his mind.
Negotiations have finished, here are the salary caps and list numbers.
Next year get yourselves a negotiator for president.

Danger is the wrong man for the job. It should be someone like Geary who is experienced but did it the hard way on little pay for much of his career. And Geary isn’t a flog

So do we put our offer to Brad Crouch on the table to force the AFL into an early compensation offer to Adelaide or do we wait to see what compensation is being offered for other players.

Personally I think Adelaide are away with the fairies if they think the AFL will offer them pick 2 even if we offer a million.
The compensation has to match the player not the shenanigans.
End of round 1 presently pick 20 is close to the mark.

Can we assume that the fact Crouch hasn’t nominated yet as us and the Crows trying to come to a deal that suits everyone?

Unrestricted Free Agents - clubs don't get chance to match.
Rory Atkins from Adelaide to Gold Coast 5 years $400,000, Adelaide gets end of round 2 pick as compensation.
Isaac Smith from Hawthorn to Geelong 2 years

A friend of mine just heard regarding Crouch that we have walked away. About time we have grown some balls. Stuff Adelaide. I prefer to keep going to the draft anyway.

We could still put in a contract, then see if Adelaide do indeed match it.

Adelaide just got an end of second round for Rory Atkin who will get $400,000 for 5 years.
Adelaide may still take an end of first round for Crouch despite saying they will match.
We still have a few days left to "persuade" Adelaide to NOT match our offer.

Only then do we have to look to a trade for Crouch.
That trade does not need to be completed for almost a fortnight.

This is great news adding Crouch will make us top 4. Very glad that he has joined us look forward to him working with Marshall and Ryder. Thanks for the good news.

You miss the advantage IF
Adelaide allow Crouch to walk as a restricted free agent he costs nothing in the way of draft picks only in salary cap.
We still keep our draft picks.
It is only if Adelaide force us into a trade that walking away is a sensible option.

So the mystery is what compensation will Adelaide get?, Essendon get Pick 7 for Daniher which is pretty good considering, given that Adelaide might very well get pick 2.

I think this one relates to the fact that he will be in the top 10% of the players at the DESTINATION club.

Take the pay of the last contract, determine the % difference with the new offer, juxtapose with the number of BFFs and then divide by average number of spanners in a sitcrome tool kit

It's a very simple AFL process, I don't know what all the fuss is about. They just draw a number out of a hat. :P

Joe Daniher, Essendon to Brisbane = first round 3 years $???
Zac Williams, GWS to Carlton = first round, 6 years @$850k+
Aidan Corr, GWS to North = second round,
Rory Atkins, Adelaide to Gold Coast = end of second round
Isaac Smith, Hawthorn to Geelong = third round

Jeremy Cameron GWS to Geelong = 5 years $950,000, GWS has 3 days to match otherwise certainly first round

Our pick 15 is now pick 17 and if GWS fail to match Geelong over Cameron it becomes pick 18.

If Adelaide is to get first round = pick 2 St Kilda would have to offer a contract like Joe Daniher or Zac Williams.
If Adelaide are offered a second round pick it becomes pick 22 or 23 depending on Cameron.
But as Adelaide has the next pick at the start of round 2 that compensation is effectively pick 23 or 24 to them.

Three outcomes for Crouch
1 St Kilda's offer delivers pick 2 to Adelaide
2 St Kilda's offer delivers pick 23 or 24 to Adelaide (and that could slip with father/son and NGA queue jumping)
3 Adelaide matches St Kilda contract and then we have to trade = give up pick 17 or 18 as a minimum (and that could slip with father/son and NGA queue jumping).

Adelaide does not get told what the compensation will be ahead of the decision to match.

GWS losing Williams & Corr is a massive salary dump.
