Why would Battle play CHB?. He held that position for most of 2019 and played very well.

For mine he’s the same type of player as a Hannerbery, Ross and Jones
Easily 4th behind them all
100% agree.

Dunstan's disposal and pace seems to improve the longer he doesn't play. He's a slightly better tackler than Ross, his commitment and courage can never be questioned but he's as one sided as Ross, slower than Ross, less durable than Ross.

Ross needs to be one of our 4th to 6th midfielders, not Dunstan. I hope a club really wants him and he has a good finish to his AFL career...Win / Win.
Dunstan has been on our list since 2013 and hasn't been able to cement a spot so why are people so desperate to keep him, lets move him on and see what we can get for him.

It's the same as everyones blind faith in Lonie (2014), who bobs up every now and again and kicks a few goals usually against the lesser sides and then goes missing for weeks on end.

The current midfield is:

Ross
Steele
Jones
Gresham
Hannebery
Clark ( perhaps in 2021?)
Billings
Dunstan
Sinclair
Bytel
Byrnes

The top 7 of those are all good players.if we added two more of high quality we could find ourselves with a formidable midfield.

The return of Gresham, a full season from Hannebery, and the continued improvement of Clarke in itself will make us a better team. Throw in one genuine midfielder of quality and look out. No team could treat our midfield as something to exploit.

We're getting close to having a complete team, which is something we haven't seen since 2009.
Why would Battle play CHB? More valuable moving up and down the ground, trouble shooting. He's not a CHB or a CHF.
Coffield needs to be added to the midfield list.

So good that he didn't play there in 2020???

Good player but neither a CHB or CHF. Can pinch hit in both spots but more valuable roaming and given roles that suit his versatility.

I don’t think Coffield will ever play midfield. Rebounding defender as a junior and looks best suited in that role.

Agree and it's should be obvious by the way he plays. It's an important role too because he is a good decision maker and has all the attributes to be the captain of our backline for the next ten years.

How many rebound entries and scores were able to set up because of him after the opposing team got it straight out of the centre? People should pay more attention when watching the game because his intercept marking and kicking are important weapons which saved us in the first final.

In footy, like life, you play to your strengths.

I agree with what you've written SP but I also believe he has the talent, the size and the skills to move into the midfield. Much like Yeo did after cutting his teeth across the half back line. We are extremely fortunate to have someone like Nick on our list.

I’m not sure if Coffield becomes a full time mid or not but looking at his progress last year, if he has another year improving at that rate we are going to have an exceptional player. He could potentially move to a wing setting up the play but we might lose some of his intercept marking which is becoming very important. A bit like what Dempster used to do.

Just for fun - let us do a x/10 exercise. That list of midfielders. How do you’d rate them out of ten, on exposed, stained form and relevance of that form going forward?

For reference, the leagues best, the very best, Dangerfield, Martin, Grambeau  etc. 10/10.

But be harsh. Ask yourself, how much are they compared among the best

Ross 6/10
Steele. 8.5/10
Jones. 6.5/10
Gresham. 7/10
Hannebery. 6.5/10
Clark ( perhaps in 2021?). 7/10
Billings. 6/10
Dunstan 5/10
Sinclair 5.5/10
Bytel 5/10
Byrnes 2/10

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Agreed. Dunstan, Lonie, Roberton and Webster should be traded. If we were able to get pick 35 for Dunstan, 35 for Lonie, 45 for Roberton and 45 for Webster and then bundle all the picks up we might be able to move up the draft order. Pick 35 = 522 x 2 = 1044, Pick 45 = 347 x 2 = 694, 1044 + 694 = 1738 which is the equivalent of pick 6 (approx). Now I'm not saying a club would give us pick 6 for those 4 players but those points will give us extra bargaining power during the trade period.

Don't know how you came to the conclusion that there are two picks at 35 and two picks at 45
