10 Disposals (6K, 4HB), 4 Marks, 2 Goals

Would still like to see him clunk a few more inside the F50 but tonight we saw some nice work below the knees and a smart head in some free play passages

The sublime kick to Butler around the body for a goal and the roving work for the goal in the first quarter were great

And the run jump mark and solid slot in the last gave us a heady glimpse of the future

Kid will be monster in a few years - just need to keep him injury free

Got his hands to the ball more often than not and seems to be on that mission. It will not take long, if this performance tonight is an indication, until his mindset moves to clunking the mark instead of being strong in a contest. His athletic ability is outstanding and he seems a very smart footballer. 30 goals would be a great first season but 50 is not out of the question I reckon. When he hits his mark he will be very hard to stop, this is looking quite clear. I think it really depends on the success of the team as a whole. If we create the right opportunities he will be cream.

Very impressive young man.

He clearly has the x-factor in that for a player of his experience, he knows where to run and where to find space. More so than that, he also reads the play well enough that if a kick doesn’t favour him, he at least makes the contest and brings the ball to ground.

Super exciting prospect IMO.

If he stays injury free... reckon this selection will be a master stroke for years to come

Great game.

I think we've got to give him a bit of a pass on clunking the pack marks, tonight they kept bombing it to him against 2 or 3 opponents, with the kicks also not being to his advantage. But at least he made a contest of it most of the time and brought it to ground.

He was incredibly dirty with himself not holding a few of them. He expects to , that’s why he’s going to be very good. Big confidence booster that last shot at goal too cos he’s been very poor in his finishing.

The kid clearly has the makings of being a match-winning key forward. Very exciting.

When those marking attempts start sticking ... and they will ... look out.

He’s also got to not overlook presentIng on the lead, which is nuts and bolts for a key forward. When you are 6’8” and quick, defenders are going to struggle to get a fist in.

... and loved his kicking style.
That set shot in the last quarter never deviated.

There was a fair bit of arm chopping going on too, which wasn't picked up by the umpires for some reason.

Love the way he makes a contest sums it up & if he can’t mark spoils it more often than not to our advantage!

Was thinking about the game today and you know what I really like about Max...
He’s actually adjusted his game to suit the environment he’s in.
One of the things that bothered me with McCartin was that Paddy used to try and use his size/strength to his advantage.

It worked in the U18s but not against bigger, stronger, more experienced defenders.

Max would have stood tall amongst his peers 2 years ago but at the moment, he’s playing more of a lead up and jump approach as opposed to hitting the packs or trying to predominantly mark above his head.

Think that adaptability bodes well.

Yes thought he played well and thought the commentary was a bit harsh
Sure he dropped some marks we’d hope he’d take moving forward but the commentators didn’t seem to recognise the marks he took up the ground nor some of his below the knees work.
Anyway they were positive and obviously have high expectations for him
His last goal was a ripper. Exactly what we need/ hope to get from him on a consistent basis

Surely he deserves a President or a Daytona, but we might just have to stick with the budget "Air King".

I thought Eddy was a little patronising in his commentary about King. To he fair, he clearly recognises Max as an outstanding prospect. Just not quite a threat just yet.

While I don’t expect Max to tear oppositions up after two games, he’s already holding his spot. I can’t wait to see him terrorise the Magpies over many years.

Harsh comparisons (yes I'm comparing a two gamer to arguably the two greatest Saints), but still interesting.

First Two Games...

Tony Lockett - 3 goals, 15 disposals, 9 marks
Nick Riewoldt - 1 behind, 16 disposals, 9 marks
Max King - 4 goals, 16 disposals, 5 marks

Geez he gets his hands to the ball so frequently - will start clunking them.

Also - gets his bloody arms chopped so often, umps need to start paying frees.

Don't think we'll see a 50 goal season from Max in 2020 - that's likely to be enough to win the coleman this year. I think half of that would be an excellent result. If he can play 15 games for 25 goals it would be very exciting.

Great athlete, works hard, presents well and his finishing was impressive against the dogs. Have to remember that he's a beanpole teenager who has missed 2 years of footy though. Wouldn't surprise me if he struggles against Moore.

If he plays 15 games at his current average he will have 30 goals - in a full season that would be 44 goals - That's a pretty good return for a Newbie - We have a gem - wait until he kicks a bag.

His body looks like a 6 month old Great Dane.

His arms look weird in relation to his skinny midrift.

King’s biggest challenge is working with his evolving body shape over the next 2 years, when he will then be in proportion.

I’m expecting he could be a similar size to a young Buddy when he’s 21

Didn't Mark Scott kick 15 or so in his first three games for us in losing teams?
He kicked a bag in a 10 goal loss V North, but it was all down hill from there.

Russell Greene for Mark Scott & Terry King

I liked Max's last goal after the clunk against two defenders.

And his successful kick at goal was very good.

It shows his skill.

He is so tall that the time between the release of the ball from his hands to the contact with his boot is long enough for the weather to change.

His kick to Butler around the corner under pressure on the boundary was better

It was a pinpoint pass
